Morning guys and Gals

it hasnt been a good morning !

So i finally got to to go for a ride after almost a month due to work committments and recent bout of the flu.

Got all the gear and the bike prepped the night before like i normally do so followed the same routine....

Hit the trails and realised that i had pumped the rear shock with too much air and alas it was like riding a hard tail ! I have nothing against Hard tails but tried and didnt like it.

After 8kms i decided to stop and attempt to adjust the rear shock as i was enjoying the ride. Big Mistake !! Rear shock looses all the air and bike is unrideable and i'm approximately 4kms from my car. So its a long walk back as ai tried to lock out the rear shock but lock didnt want to stay in the locked position.

One hr later and 4kms im finally at my car.

Thanks to fellow cyclists along the route that stopped to ask if i needed assistance greatly appreciated. if any of you read this i was the tall guy pushing the Axis FS 29er.

it doesnt end there !

I put the bike on the car rack and make my way to Hattons Cycles to get some air in the shock just to make sure that there isnt any damage to the shock. Shock pumped and I am on my way back home travelling on the m4.

Just i am about to pass the Umdloti offramp i glance in my rear view mirror and to my horror i see my beloved 4mth old bike fall off the bike rack and bounce on the tar like a rag doll. The rear tyre flies one side and the rest to the bike the other side.

Damage is quite extensive ! :(

Called my insurance broker and email sent requesting assistance to lodge a claim .......... :cursing:

Eeish I have seen a roof full of surfboards do the freeway cartwheel before, you know things aren't going to be pretty when you pick them up.

Terrible luck! I'm paranoid about making sure my bike is on and have had a close call once. That was enough to make me shake like a leaf.

One tip though. Get yourself a shock pump and then you can adjust the pressure yourself, at home. Makes life so much easier.

Man, I am nervous of those racks, am so happy that now I just chuck the bike in the back of my bakkie and close the canopy. Good luck with the insurance claim.

My shock pump stays in my pack, regardless of the bike I'm riding
