You dont need in depth knowledge to contribute....and there are many ways to help people, Tech Q&A is but one part of this forum. I personally wish admin would make a requirement, but I understand his position it however does nothing for stimulating growth of what I think everybody wants thehub to be....read the gumtree vs community post.

That's true, there are many ways to contribute, but I'd rather my contributions were worthwhile instead of spamming photos or something, I can understand your point of view on wanting to have a better perception or idea of someone you are dealing with especially in terms of rather selling something to someone you know contributes and helps out others.

To me it just seems a bit totalitarian, I guess it would separate the chancers from the committed though.

I mean your whole viewpoint on this made me realise I hadn't posted anything yet, and got me to participate. So I guess that works :)

ah you gots it, you see by posting here and debating you actually participating...I already know more about you than I did an hour ago and vica versa...I think people overthink the contributing thing....it doesnt mean you need to always have an opinion on everything(I personally try and avoid the religion and politics threads), but merely to have an opinion sometimes...there are many threads on a daily basis that is non cycling related and even some that needs help or advice on these topics...sometimes just posting your experience helps someone, somewhere along the line...you might not even know it.

Hi Rouxtjie

I would just like to give my opinion on your post count rule. As you can see I have bearly any posts and have been on the hub for a long time so I'm sure you would label me as your classic "lurker". For me personally the Hub has changed recently and used to be a far more hostile place, others may not agree, everything you said was just ripped apart and a lot of people just tried to turn everything into a massive argument and didn't really help the people on that thread much! This led me to not post as I knew I would just have to sit there defeating what i said against a completely pointless argumement, something I do not have time to do! I just want to reiterate that I feel this mentality has changed lately which is a great thing! I use the hub if I'm looking for specific info or buy or sell something specific, I don't just cruise the classifieds only if I am looking for something specific. Ya I do contribute where I feel I have the knowledge to but to be honest most of these threads are answered with in minutes of a question being asked and the question has been answered in depth. I guess what I'm saying is that people use the hub differently, some use it to chat some use it for strictly functional purposes, I see both as 100% fine to do! Post count isn't always a accurate or fair representation of a persons character or their knowledge! I know your going to say that the more posts the more you can judge that persons character which I guess is fair enough, just wanted to give my opinion

I apologise in advance if its already been mentioned - but what about sellers wasting buyers time? Whole new topic I know - but lately I have been spending a lot more time on the hub in the search for specific parts and items. When they have popped up - iv been in immediate contact with the seller replying maybe once or not at all. Then next minute its sold and you just hear nothing? Where is the common decency in the selling department? In one case which I can name and shame cause it irritated me so much - hubber Russmuss selling a Specialized Fate which I then got into contact with assured me its mine only to then not reply and the bike disappears from the classifieds. This add had plenty interest from the word go but I had offered the seller R3000 more then his asking cause I needed it that bad. Another could possibly come up with a set of wheels im interested in. Lets see. Just disappointing really.

i see people (not saying you) respond on the comments, some send emails, both can be missed by the seller, its not like sellers scan their ads all day, IMHO if i want something i go the most direct route,,,phone, hunt them down

1000 posts... Whatever. I've been on the hub for nearly 10 years and bought and sold my fair share. What matters is this is my name and my photo which counts way more than 100 000 posts from a nickname and a cartoon avi.

Apparently having 1000+ posts makes you a lot more credible. Wether you got there by talking kuk 99,9% of the time, or not.

It's exactly that which has caused many long time members of this forum to stop posting, or leave. You actually see some of them around once in a while, but only posting in the classifieds. Fancy that.

They have managed to purge a lot of baiters in the last year or so and thehub has been better off for it.

I have messed a few sellers around and have been messed around too. Sometimes you get the mail reply but get busy, life happens. I try my best to never hog a sale while trying to decide. \

Buyers must just be honest, if you only have the cash next week, say so.

If you are still undecided, say so.

At the end of the day, whoever pays, gets the goods.

Finish and klaar!!

I have no problem personally with lurkers pin it 101....there is in anyway no way to stop it, however I don't want to help them since they are themselves not interested in helping others. I agree that post count isn't always spot on ito judging someones character, but that is all we have here in forum land....again the argumentative threads are here, but try and stay clear if its not your cup of tea...but by not posting at all, because you are scared of being flamed doesnt make sense.

In the instance I was referring to I was in mail communication, PM communication to the one he replied to and not cell as there was no number on his add and I asked and asked for his and never got it. In the wheels deal I have called, left voicemail, sms'ed saying ill take them - please sell them to me and got a few uninterested replies. Guess sellers have the right to be picky, but maybe just have the decency to let a buyer know.

i dont know why everyone is so sensitive about their post count, I actually couldnt give a flying vaaark, what rouxtjie is saying the hub is a community as in any community he is simply more comfortable with people he "knows" in the community, and maybe his sell/post ratio count works for him. he is not attacking low post counts he is merely pointing out HIS preffrence of selling

also as said above some use hub only for classifieds, some of those are not so savoury creatures there has been issues, funny enough its normally low count poster, it does not say all are that way,

i have in the past sent items i want to sell to hubbers i "know" without meeting and without payment because of that exact reason, im comfortable and i trust them, i have done this a few times and have never been burnt, again opinion everyone has one

i even sent a SS to a very dodgy guy  on the hub without ever have seen him, from his contribution on the hub i knew the bike was safe as houses

The "post count rule" is one opinion of a couple of hubbers that are mostly here to enjoy the forum and it's community and 'discussing' everyday matters. This however will not really influence whether an item gets sold if posted by a small-post-count-hubber or not. If something is placed in classifieds, the price is right, and there is someone looking for it, it will be sold. There are thousands of people here with no to little post counts that are looking for a bike or a part or accessory everyday, so the opinion/rule of 1 or 20 hubbers will not really influence whether you sell or not.

I've started with this here Hub as a buyer/seller with no post counts four years ago... Sold and bought many items with no hassles while having very little posts. Each buyer/seller to his own. You will probably be safer off buying/selling here with no posts than on junk-tree.
