speaking of rules. the RULES we really should be reporting everyone who transgresses them, no?

2.15     A rider shall not use foul or offensive language or make offensive, indecent or inappropriate gestures.

use the F word and you're banned for life!

2.16     A rider shall wear clothing appropriate for a family event at all times.

whatever the f@#$ that means? pretty sure my family don't dig me rocking up in lycra to a wedding/picnic/barmitzvah? what about white bibshorts?

2.17     A rider shall not dispose of any litter along the Cycle Tour course except in refuse bins.

yup, let's crucify all those gu wrapper droppers. and what about that guy who lost his waterbottle? BAN HIM!

2.20     A rider shall complete the Cycle Tour course with his/her own effort and shall not receive any assistance in this regard other than drafting behind another rider or riders participating in the Cycle Tour.  The Trust or its designee has the discretion to allow minor assistance by pushing but not towing.  Towing is only allowed in the case of special entries for disabled riders.

what about the people who push their wives up chappies WITHOUT the prior express permission of the trust beforehand? BAN THEM!

You are really on a roll now!

Not familiar with those rules but after reading it I'm ok thanks

It is actually quite a big deal.

Cycling is already percieved as an elitist sport that only the more affluent can really afford. Already events like the Epic are out of reach of the average person. Entry touting doesn't make this situation any better.

ok. I say you're talking turkey poo. It's not a big deal. please prove me otherwise, but here's my evidence.

thehub classifieds:

https://www.bikehub.co.za/index.php?app=core&module=search&do=search&andor_type=&sid=dab6bdeb831e9141f005315a28bbefb6&search_app_filters[hubmarket][sortKey]=dateadded&search_app_filters[hubmarket][sortKey]=dateadded&search_term=argus&search_app=hubmarket

that's a search on 'Argus' under classifieds.

Wanted - 23 individual adverts(some looking for multiple entries)

For sale - 0

let's go to gumtree for fun too

http://www.gumtree.co.za/s-events/argus/v1c9067q0p1

wanted - 11 adverts

for sale - 0

I could find more if i used the term 'cycle tour' but it's easy using the old generic name 'Argus' to prove my point.

So ja, please go show me how this is a problem? With all this demand surely these so called touts are out there cleaning up? If they exist they would be advertising their wares to the highest bidder.

Do some reading on what a truly free market is. Hint: it's got something to do with vulnerable people and exploitation.

Wow, I am vulnerable cause I don't have a sani entry...I am actually not sure if you are serious

.....I think that is called a monopoly (i.e. ESKOM, Telkom (RIP), SANRAL).....vulnerable people usually don't have a choice and get exploited.......but since this has turned into Hub-economics 101......please facilitate the teaching process.

This has spiraled out of control.... as expected though

You speak of this as if this is a majority issue. Its not like somebody buys all 30 000 tickets for the Argus and then sells them at a markup. So don't blame people selling tickets at a markup for your lack of an entry, its not their fault.I for one tend to give my entries away that I don't use. But that doesn't mean somebody cannot charge for it. If its too much don't buy it!

what makes you think that I dont have an entry? Cycling for me changed one day when I commented on a pic and got rewarded with a pair of Sidi Ergo 2 carbon road shoes, at that stage the shoes was probably worth more than my bike. From that day I had prommised myself that I would also one day want to do that, to date I have only given away a brake set and shimano pedals and made a couple of great deals with the people who have bought parts from me. I did not start this thrread because of the add, I did it because people I know just started cycling, the Argus would be their first, they dont even have a full kit yet, but they have been done in by someone to pay R1700 for two entries because they had to go into a meeting and missed their chance in the que, remember not everyone sits all day on the hub, they dont know that if they waited they could have gotten an entry the correct way

I sold an entry to the Argus in 2000.  Had to do my drivers the Monday morning.

Was very sad to sell the entry.  Would have been my first Argus.

But I agree.  Sell on the face value.
