Regardless of all the legalities of who owns what the design document clearly stipulated that they place each one in as much shadow as possible while using materials designed to blend in.

;) You are not meant to slow down for them when you drive a Landrover, they are meant as little jumps. It's fun, but it will cost you a set of lower control and swing arm bushes every 10 000 km. See, that's what the longer travel is for, to be used, but just like on the mtb, you'll pay in maintenance!

Hahahahaha. Dude. The road was bad. I drive it every week often more than twice a week. Trust me, it needed to be redone completely.

The speed bumps were also necessary as the amount of traffic (cycle, foot, horse and child) was on the increase and as such a new road without those speed checking items would have been foolhardy

Its just that speed humps are just lazy and not a creative means of traffic calming. So where is the pathway for the non-motorist. Do they still have to use the roadway?

If you boys go blazing over speed bumps with willy nilly regard for your cars, then certainly the R60 entry is a silly figure for you guys.

I have to drive carefully over speed bumps to ensure my car lives a happy and long life.

The entry fee is not far off the value of my car, so it's a 50/50 for me [emoji1]

It was more the hitting my head on the roof lining that taught me a lesson.

As i mentioned it is steep indeed, but all about perspective. 60 bucks will get you:

A - a KFC double crunch burger that will result in heartburn,

B - a Micheal Bay explosion or

C - An all day pass to ride in the forest with your buds

Which one is worth 60 bucks?

Yes its 'expensive' if you want to angle it against other trails (that cost 60 bucks in petrol just to drive to) but then again, as i said, its not about the moola, It's about having a good attitude.

I might be wrong , but I am would be considered an upper middleclass person, with possibly above average income and finances . I can AFFORD the R60 no problem if I must...but don't  forget to bench mark yourself against the 'average' income person living in greater Cape Town and their ability to access the mountain with family members if need be. I feel strongly that it is precluding lower income earners from enjoying what should absolutely be a free amenity in reality.

heard on the radio this morning that they're apparently checking people for wildcard activity permits at tokai East now too. this is the cycle track which borders tokai suburb and takes you on a big wide loop from tokai road to m3 and back.

is this right? surely that's a free entry zone and no activity permit required since no day entry charged.

I was always under the impression that cycling, dog walking etc was fine there.

There will be a ton of upset dog owners if they aren't allowed to use that place.

Table Mountain also a free entry area... don't they check there also?

SANP - how to win friends... not. They are truly a clueless bureaucracy. You would think it was totally logical that they would have  mobile permit issuing systems allowing every ranger to issue an access ticket. Instead of fining people they could win friends and generate income in the proper way. Too quasi militaristic for that kind of thinking no doubt...

Not free entry... you need an activity permit there too. And they have rangers checking.
