I've haven't ridden a thru-axle, so I can't really comment.

Logic tells me it should provide more stiffness.

Most manufacturers are starting to spec new models with thru-axles where the forks exceed a certain amount of travel. That's why you can get a 100mm RS Reba in 9m QR, but the 120mm is only available as a thru-axle.

No.

I had T/A Tapered before and QR Tapered now on a XTC Composite Hardtail, and can with ALL honesty say, I don't feel any difference, in fact I've done a 3min57 down Dorsberg with the QR fork, where you'd think a stiffer 15mm T/A should be faster.

That's my personal experience, I still ride my QR fork and riding it as hard and with as much confidence as ever.

Edit: With regards to hubs, manufacturers will cover all conversations with adapters

I have heard all the claims about extra stiffness and the axle being more secure etc but honestly cannot feel the difference between my bike which has TA and any of my previous bikes or friends bikes I have ridden with QR.

So I dont think its worth bothering with trying to "upgrade" it.

Too expensive to upgrade.

I have a nice set of Fulcrum MTB wheels (26") that has a 20mm alloy axle with QR ends, this makes for a nice stiff front end already. Think I will stick to QR on the bike for some time.

I think that having a tapered headset and steerer already, it would be pretty stable up front anyway. Doubt you will notice any difference imo

i have aslo ridden both

where the difference comes in is stiffness at high speed(at least 45km/ph

thats all i have experinced but I still value your opinions!!

It will be far more apparent on a longer travel fork. Think 140mm fork and up.

Yes I have felt the difference between the two.

Feeling the difference on smooth single track or grondpad is also not a decent test....riding down a fast section of rutted trail of a trail littered with baby head rocks will be where you will find the real benefits.

Yes.

Definite difference in stiffness and overall control and stability for me. Really just like the solid feel.

my 2c ;)

i upgraded from a 2011 commencal meta 4" frame to a 2014 Santacruz 5010 just over a month ago.  The SC has much larger headset beatings, 35mm fork stanchions (pike) and a through axle.

I'm not sure whether it is the headset, the fork or the trought axle, but the SC is 100 times stiffer and very apparent when hitting some rough stuff

Having ridden qr and Spez through bolt and through axel there definitely a lot more stiffness in the through bolt and through axel design.

Even changed the lowers on my Sid shock so that I could get the through axel on it.

I have both on bikes that i alternatively ride .There is a differance in strengh and more solid and direct feel, but you adapt your riding style unknowingly .There are other componants on a bike that make a bigger differance. My latest fork is a fox ctd kashima TA on a hard tail .This is an amazingly good fork especially when thing get rough

It depends on your type of riding. If you mainly do dirt roads and not overly technical single I think it would be a waste of money. If you are buying a new fork anyways, then ya sure go for TA.

I'm running 20mm up front currently on a dj fork and only really feel the difference over QR when I'm bombing through rocks, jumping or railing a berm at speed. For cruising on dirt roads i haven't noticed any difference. So in my case I'd definitely take it over QR any day!

If you enjoy technical downhill riding then yes the TA is a huge upgrade,it's much stiffer and removes some flex from the axle.

I found the front of my Scott 910 much better with the TA
