Then in my opinion it is not a proper OTG cable! There should be x5 pins in the connector that fits into your Garmin 500. Looking at your pic it does have x5 pins. Looking at the pic as shown, the last pin on the left and the one next to it needs to be 'bridged.

Don't you have a techie friend that can cut it open and do the necessary soldering?

As per page shown previously (3 & 4 and elsewhere in this forum) guys have made their own.

Scroll down on this page link and see the diagram showing the link between 5 & 4 pin.

Hope you come right! 11 days to launch!

Shot Trail Warrior as it turns out i do actually have a techie Savy friend who can bridge those 2 pins for me.

Hi, the tips and comments have been really useful, but still feeling apprehensive for the day, especially the first stretch which would be downhill in the dark. Has anyone got any tips on what to take on the bike and what I can put in the boxes that will be sent to the control points? Thx

On the bike:

yourself

2 bottles

Garmin

light (front and back)

spare tube and spares

tools

a bar and a gel (I never touch these - enough snacks along the way)

Boxes:

all the panic stuff

Spare kit

Spare light

Spare battery

Spare legs

Spare bar and gel

Spare spares

Bum cream

Last year, we only took out knee warmers at CP1, and put our lights away at CP3. Didn't need anything else from the boxes.

These is enough food and juice at the checkpoints and water points to food a small Central African nation. If you ride waterpoint to waterpoint, you shouldn't need anything from the boxes.

The riding in the dark is relatively easy. Use your light wisely though.

seconds on the taper...

My last hard training was done this past weekend.. 220+ kms 3200m climbing

I would also like to know peoples training rides from today till friday race day.

How many kms should you do this last week/weekend before the race please?

This week is business as usual, and slightly shorter rides on the weekend (3hr LSD and 4hr tempo), then some leg looseners next week.

I'm sorted with the cable now. Works like a charm. A mate of mine did it for me as I'm useless with DIY, instead of doing the crossover of the pins at the connector, he did it with the wires in the middle of the cable.

BUM CREAM became my most used item after 180 km

Last training ride was the weekend as well, but I'm still doing Emperors on Sunday, albeit on road bike. Mtb went for service today and trucking it down on Tuesday. Probably just a spinning class or 2 next week to keep the knees going.

x2 1hr Interval rides Tues & Thurs this week. Chilled walk, Mon, Wed, Friday. A 3hr tempo ride Saturday. 2hr ride Sunday...

Next week -

Chilled walk Mon, a 1hr interval ride Tues, 1hr tempo ride Wed and then that is it.....travel to the 'playground' on Thursday and let the 'butterflies loose on Friday!  :whistling:

Whatever has not been done now will not be caught up by next week..... So! this is it!

Any of you carry the space blanket with you, is it compulsory?

compulsory yes - not that any one check but if you are hurt and you go from hot riding to standstill in the night your body temp will drop quickly so I think its a good idea to have one - ts not big or heavy and can safe your life

Carry one.

It weighs nothing and is the one thing that can save a life.

It is the size of a pack of smokes and weighs less.

Any outdoor equipment shop should have it. Try Cape Onion Mart.
