I recall there was a big debate about Dyno vs Batt power not to long ago . I did a lot of research on the Dyno setup before my RASA attempt and then took the battery route . And yes you don't need your light on full power most of the time .

Happy Birthday Dirty!

That was yesterday - got off track, and rules says you have to join where you left, so they had to go back ... must have been very demoralising!

He went back to the start?

Did he restart at all.. or call it a day?

The million dollar version was branded as one "toughest mountain bike race on earth".

Currently it is branded as "toughest race on earth".

Horses for courses to be competitive.

Just to be clear - I don't care either way. This thing must be bloody tough and I'm absolutely hooked to my tracker screen.

My planning also started for next year - a GS spectator road trip though.

Me too...fascinating!! How cool would it be to watch this live on TV

Nice live tracking, only problem is i don't know who to cheer for... other than GU and HS i don't know any of the others

After 50~60 hours of tracking you might feel like you know more :)

It would be a bit sad if people decide to use drafting since it's not allowed . But we all know that once a group forms it gets very difficult to not draft . I drafted a herd of cows just before Hoffmeyer .

mkay. checked the rules. looks like guys where riding together up till stage1.

easy to  monitor really, with the gps you can see the top okes are spread out a bit.

20. Drafting: 20.1. Drafting of a competitor is only allowed up to the first Race station. 20.2. Drafting is defined as a position five meters or closer behind another 15 rider. 20.3. A breach of this Rule will constitute a warning.

20.4. A rider will be allowed only one warning.

20.5. If a rider breaches this rule for a second time, the rider will no longer be eligible for any of the prize money, but may continue the race.

20.6. No rider will be allowed to draft behind any vehicle of any sort at any time during the Race.

Speaking of the rules, it still refers to 'teams' (In an ideal world we could simply just show up and race and the fastest team to make it to the end would win - 2014 race was for teams of 2). Also have prize money of R35k for the winners, website says R30k.

Cheer for Tim Deane - only stopped 15 minutes since the start.

Cheer for Mike Woolnough - read about his preparation here: http://mikewoolnough.blogspot.co.za/

Cheer for Neville Higgs - was he not one of the riders that we watched earlier this year during Freedom Challenge?
