Tar road a lot further away than that. That long stretch between Calvinia and the poort at the south end of the Ceres Karoo is very much dirt. (Its the longest stretch of road between two towns in South Africa - driven there lots of times).

There are short stretches of tar between the Karoo and Ceres, then its tar to Wellington.

 , thanks got confused, thought the r355 was tar .....

and baaisili, you know what I mean

Slowbee the problem I have is that the update is out of sync by about 3-6 minutes which could be 2-3 kms, confusion in the midst of the tension.

you not allowed to say anything..... you have another thrilling instalment of the River Rat Tales to pen !

the girls race is hotting up as well. they are 3km apart and about to go into Sutherland, will they, wont they stop? Go down the pass in the night, try get up the steep uphill in the night on tired legs and then rest ? or rest for 4 hrs till 2am and then gun it so you up the steep part before it gets hot ?

I think I'll go ride 109km tomorrow....it will be my Munga, just without the other 0 on the end!

GU seems to have some rhythm now, I get the feeling that there was a longish portage section where JN had a bit of an advantage. What athletes, I would have been in survival mode just outside Bloem!
