The torches were ready and the gallows with fresh rope. Now what to do?????

I'm reading this and I can't help myself. Did the kit include bib shorts? I know he owes money, and that's a separate issue. If he's worn the bib shorts, I wouldn't want them back.

Name and shame.

after being involved in marketing and sponsors for a good deal of my early career, I learnt you cant fight about small stuff. The fact that you offer to "sponsor" an event, I am sure some people read, take advantage of your brand and products in the name of marketing to achieve their personal goals.

Ok, need to distract you with different thread. So how about these people on fondriests, huh?

But seriously, it would make me the douche if I name and shame after he mailed me now. Not that I'm not generally a douche but like to hide it from most people. Anyway, thought this is a cool pic for sponsorship. This guy didnt smell at all....must be the Mitchum!

I think we have given our sponsors a decent return on Investment I hope.

For me you guys will always be remembered as the people that pulled the whole group E in the one tonner, and I heard the same happened at the west coast express. It was not the kit or the sponsors on the kit that caught the eye, but your work ethic. I never heard anyone on your team complaining about the bunch of wheelsuckers behind you. Well done for that!

Top Tip: Hand out kit on Friday night before DC

couldnt agree more. One douche bag decided to swap teams on Friday evening, because it "was a once in a lifetime opportunity to ride with 2 Mtn pro's", needles to say it wasn't long before he got dropped, I think it was at the *first climb out of Swellendam

*exaggeratted because I'm still pee'ed off at the audacity. But to be honest he still had to ride more than half the distance without his entire "team"

Option 22. Invite the guy for a coffee and have a good chat about it. Sounds like the guy is young - he might just be really tight on cash, and he might feel like a big a-hole about dropping the team already.

Maybe just show him a way out that he feels he has a realistic opportunity at redeeming himself?

Top advice.

It'll also go a long way at showing the whippersnapper how to correctly deal with confrontation

Hi, quick clarification.  Riders could keep the kit after the DC.  It was my understanding that you actually had to do the race to qualify to keep it though.  The supplier had an expensive or normal option. Our budget allowed the normal option to be sponsored but little bit to be paid in if you wanted the more expensive option. I always try to be accommodating and gave the riders a choice.

I did send a mail to the team stating the budget constraints and that if you pull out due to any reason you have to give the kit back (and be refunded your upgrade money) or you can keep the kit, but pay in the part you were sponsored so that we can offer the same deal to your replacement. The only reason why I could offer the bloke free kit was because the person that pulled out before him paid in the difference and kept the kit.  This person joined our team very late though and did not receive this mail. I did however expect common courtesy and that he will be willing to help me out seeing as how I help him out and tried to make him part of a very close team.

Whatever the outcome is I hope he thinks of his actions. He is very young and everyone in the team liked him, he not only ignored me but others on the team as well. Everyone is a bit miffed at him for that. After this no one in the team will think much of him and he effectively alienated 11 cycling buddies. The cycling fraternity is not that big that you annoy (expletive) 11 people and word doesnt get around.

I sent him the link to the discussion so he is more than willing to engage or not.  I do not want this to become a mud slinging contest, but would really like to know what his thinking is.

and there is the crux of the matter - put yourself in his shoes. my first thought would of been 'thanks for telling me that now" and then i would have given back your kit and told you to keep my money.
