Really enjoyed this race.

Very disappointed concerning my performance But can only make me stronger.

Was late this morning so missed my group and started in F, pulled hard over the first few KM and was rewarded by catching E.

Set back and helped so now and them,

Tested my climbing legs a few times during the climbs to make sure I brought them with and to my surprise they were there , could pull away from the strong guys up on the longer hills.

Then its happened again :. the 80KM bonk was only a for a minute or 2(strava estimates power dropping from +-250W to 190W) but was enough to be dropped and had to case like crazy when I overcame it.

Needless to say, little to late and couldn't catch them... and was sooooo much looking forward to a group sprint up visserhok followed by 99er finish...was not to be.

Ended up doing a 3:13, 6 min behind group winners :

Big   to the guys that was keeping the pace nice and high ,especially the guy that started in F and worked all the way ,non stop till the finish.....( I would assume)

BTW I was the one with the long white compression socks

Buddy if you bonk you will feel as if you are about to die and just worry about surviving or even finishing the next 100 m..

I personally have never recovered from a good bonking.

Did this race last in 2010, battled and did just over 5 hours. Vowed never to return! Decided to give it a shot this year, was expecting to do around 4 hours, finished in 3:31 in J. Feeling optimistic for the Argus.

Second this... My one and only real time, I sat under a tree for about 30mins. No way you could replenish your glycogen in a few mins.

Took me about ten km's to recover after my 80km wall....

haha that was exactly how I experienced my first bonk. Funny thing is at the time I didn't know what happened, but after explaining the symptoms to someone they confirmed it was a bonk / hitting the wall!!

True true!

I remember a bonk once during the 2011, I think, 99er.

I could hardly keep my bike upright. I swore I saw aliens or angels or something sitting on the roadside fences.

Feels like dying somehow, Ramster, never mind pushing 190 watts.

I feel you, I climbed that mother in 39-25 :(

eina! I purposely redesigned my cassette. I lost the 13, moved everything down and added a 28. Saved my neck for sure!

By the way, on a more vane note. My wife laughed at the medal. Hardest race for me thus far ( compared to other 100km races), but crappiest medal!

Doubt anything beats the bottle opener at the Durbie Dash....If your wife saw that she would have sold your bike(s)

Hey nazmo, well done - great time!

My big frustration was, riding in the front group with you guys, that the short route riders stuffed us royally. We had it twice where we had to slam on brakes on the uphills just to get around guys cruising the short route 3 abreast.  :cursing:  By the time you get around them (without crossing the lines) it's chase time... And then, having just caught up, we got it in exactly the same way, but that time I was toast and knew chasing would be killing myself. As a side-note, it happened a third time again on that miserable section down to the N7. Oh, and then we had a bakkie join the group as well, that also helped with us being split off.

Overall I actually really enjoyed the ride, legs felt fine, bit of expected back discomfort from not having been on the road bike (bar for a quick outing last weekend) thusfar this year. Saw some nice sites along the way and will drive back there for some photo's!

Lets just say it wasn't a brick wall but a partition wall( dry wall).

I have done 3 races in my life thus far and it happens every time at that time

Burger It happened ,stopped at a water point , was 100% after that again

That paarl race 2 weeks ago same thing.. lucky for me the pace wasn't as high and could hold on till I overcame.

And now again with the 99er.

Similarities between all 3 was,

happens @ +- 2,5 hour mark

I was running low on water so was drinking very sparingly ( will eliminate this by taking a camelbak this weekend for the Tour The Stellenbosch )

Didn't last longer then 5 min and was 100% after I recovered, could even pull again.
