Hey hubbers,

Need a new saddle for my MTB, the existing Spez Phenom is nice but way to wide!

I have the Fizik Arione on the road bike and happy, was thinking of Fizik Tundra or Gobi, just not sure which one.

I am doing the epic so I need something comfie over racey

Thanks!

The Phenom comes in different widths (143 & 155mm).

Check which one you have before you buy a new one.

The Fizik Gobi & Tundra are about 125mm wide, but have quite different shapes.

The Antares about 142mm wide (also my current favourite for road and mtb).

Some bike shops have demo saddles so that you can 'try before you buy'. Otherwise its an expensive 'trial and error' process. Other people can make all the suggestions they like, but your undercarriage will make the final decision.

Test them first... I always thought the Gobi was awesome as everyone raved about them but after trying something else I soon realised that discomfort wasnt something I had to get used to.

Now I would rather sit bare ass on a branch of Poison Ivy than subject myself to a Gobi for 2km.

Different saddles for different asses, I ride a Fizik Tundra on all my bikes and for me it feels like a couch

Rather try different saddles, I can tell you what works for me but that doesnt necessarily mean it'll be great for you.

HTFU. Gobi FTW.

Spez Phenom, Henge and Avatar all nice for MTB although Avatar is marketed as a road saddle by Spez. All available in different spec (weight, materials) and several different widths. The key to these is to get your ass measured so that you select the correct width. Henge and Avatar have more padding than the Phenom but I find the Phenom more comfortable. This seems counter-intuitive and the softer saddles certainly feel more comfy for the first 5 minutes but I can ride longer on the Phenom.

Saddle fit is so personal that nobody can tell you what will work for you. Gonna have to work it out yourself so try to find a LBS that will let you try saddles on loan.

Saddles are very much a personal preference thing... Most people love the Antares, but to be honest, its the most uncomfortable saddle I've ever sat my skinny ass on.

I have the Tundra which is a 'flatter' version of your road Arione and probably a decent bet, but as mentioned above, Gobi may be more comfortable than the Tundra for long rides.
