dirtypot Posted February 9, 2015 Posted February 9, 2015 Went on a cycle from the deep south up to Melkbos yesterday and was struck by the courteous riders north of town.All cyclists that I rode past nodded, greeted or waved even if they were on the other side of the road. It felt like being on my mountain bike, not on the road! It was driven home to me on my way back home when as soon as I crossed into the Southern Suburbs all cyclists ignore each other again. One point to the Northerners
Bankie99 Posted February 9, 2015 Posted February 9, 2015 Yeah being from the North I always get irritated with myself when I cycle from home to top of chappies and back and I greet other cyclist and get the cold shoulder and this is especially noted after Camps bay area. I feel like such a knob for greeting and then being totally ignored as if I am casper the friendly cyclist When cycling in the north tho 95% of cyclist will greet.
venom1 Posted February 9, 2015 Posted February 9, 2015 I had the same chat with a fellow cyclist last week. We offen train down Botterlary Road and I said the same thing. At least 95% of the cyclist will greet back. Each to his own but it's nice to be part of a friendly cycling community.

I also noticed on Saturday on the way across Chappies that the folks there are very introverted and not keen on acknowledging another rider. Ah well, I suppose there are worse things to complain about. Northerners are just plain chilled, no two ways about it.

It was all the Northeners riding in the south since all the Southerners were up North riding the 99er... [edit] - I was probably one of the folks greeting you..
Da Vinci Posted February 9, 2015 Posted February 9, 2015 I promise I tried to greet every one on Crappies, Suikerbossie, Campsbay, Noordhoek as I went along but bloody hell my face hurt from all the smiling - was actually grateful when ppl didn't greet cos then I was off the hook
