Anyone else feel that the food was not up to the standard it was hyped up to be?

Dinner on day one was really bland, not even a generous helping of salt, pepper, chilli/peri peri sauce could get it to taste any better. Especialy the chicken.

Breakfast was so-so, but I did not even go for breakfast on Sunday.

Spur Burger was ok'ish, if you could get one. Day two I did not feel like a burger immediately after the ride, but did go for lunch (again, so-so in my opinion). After lunch I went past the Spur stand to ask what time they are closing. Got told it was 17h00. I went for an afternoon snooze undet the big tent, and at 16h15 I felt like a snack and went to collect my burger. Got there only to be told the chips fryer has been switched off already, so there is no chips, and as far as the burger go, there was only a few beef burgers left. Told the young lady that I was not happy as they told me that they will be opened till 17h00. She just batted her blue eyes at me, flicked her blond ponytail and walked off. I left that burger right there on the counter.

But maybe it was just me that had higher expectations of this whole "adventure". Truth be said, it left me feeling rather flat.

Not one to complain, but I actually agree with you here. The food for me last year at the Race was much better than this year.

All in all, I'm grateful I could have done this event again this year.

Was my first W2W and i thought the food was terrible bar the breakfast (i cant go wrong with wheatbrix yogurt and fresh fruit).

A few people who did it last year raved about the food and said it was tops.

I thought the supper both nights was terrible and ended up eating like a rabbit on the greens. I didnt expect the 5 star meals but i expected something decent.

at least the water points were sufficient tho!

Aifoktog!? Did you check into a 5-star hotel or enter a stage race?

I'm not complaining - I didn't have to cook!! (or do any other domestic chores for that matter). Nutritionally, the food was perfect with lots of high quality protein and fresh greens. Agree about not being ravenous when getting off the bike, but my partner and I made a point to get the burger in asap to replenish the system.

The rehidrat was a hit again - ended all 3 days a bit dehydrated so availed myself of the bottomless styrofoam cups.

 Troll alert.

Nought. Just calling the "moangatte" out. Just going back the last 10 pages people moaned about the following:

1. Food
2. Water points
3. Fat people going up slowly
4. Skinny people going down slowly
5. Perceived slow female riders
6. Technical Skills or lack thereof
7. Fitness or lack thereof
8. Day 2
9. Route markings
10. Security
11. Bike storage
12. Jet Line Action photos
13. Prize giving
14. And so on and so on and so on...

Apologies if I might've offended you.

The complaints are far outnumbering the lekke stories.

edgarblount, did you do this event this year, or any previous years?

I have many friends who have done this race previously, some numerous times. All of them said that this is a must do event. The one thing they harped on about was the amazing spread laid out.

Well, to me it was not that amazing, even my one friend who did his 4th W2W this year admitted that it was a bit so-so.

So as far as I'm concerned, the food was a big let down for me. Yes, there was a huge range to choose from, but after you had to force down the food that you dished up and was disapointed with, you are a bit hesitant to go and dish something else up and be disapointed again.

I'm no food critic, but if food is bland, it is bland. And this year the "amazing" W2W food spread did not live up to it's awesome reputation. NOT JUST ME SAYING THAT.

And before you or anyone else mention it, for the amount of money I paid to do this race, I could have booked myself and the wife into a fairly upmarked establishment and enjoyed the quality of the food expected.

The problem is, people over inflate the "niceness" of the stuff. W2W Day 2 single track? PFFFT

I was told the Tuli food was the BEST THING EVER, "prepare yourself for the most amazing food".... it was ok at best.... coffee was good, but thats whole thread on its own.

BnB, W2W, Sani, Tuli, the food IS only ok as you say. HOWEVER, compared to other multiday stage races, its MUCH better. Maybe thats the yard stick that it needs to measured agaisnt.

Once you have done a small multi day stage race and had to force down a plate of oily mince ladled over soggy pasta with saw dust as cheese, W2W food seems like the stuff kings get hand fed whilst being fanned by palm leaf weilding pretty ladies.

Wannabe, I am with you on the food. It was fine, but I wouldnt go any further than that. The food at Sani was a lot more delicious to me. But I asked a couple of other people who all thought it was better. So personal preference. I didnt eat the burgers because my boyfriend told me (he did the Adventure I did the Ride) that they are so bad you should take one, and then throw it away while the staff are watching.

And Day 2. Dont even let me get started on that. I will let my tweet from that day enlighten you all on my thoughts:

Play day? PLAY day? I must have taken a wrong turn. For the whole route. @w2wmtb #MyRide #sufferfest

yip, food was disappointing. Food was also cold and overcooked I definitely expected better.

For the price - could have been better.

Hopefully they will post a survey and take the feedback to heart.

Other than that, a good event.

Day two was also a horrible day for me. I also wondered where the 85% singletrack was.

More dirt road/jeeptrack riding was done, interspersed with some really sketchy singletrack, some of whom I thought to be really dangerous in sections. Especialy sections of the st immediately following the "Thandi" waterpoint where Suzy did her wardance.

And no, I do not dawdle in st, can hold my own when it comes to st riding.

edit: Let's just say "been there, done that"

Will do something else next year.

Good post...

I think us Hubbers (me included) often come to these type of threads to vent about the little things that bothered us rather than to trade war stories or give balanced feedback. This thread (and every Sani & Argus thread) certainly aren't representative of the general opinion out there.

This has to be one of the most unexpected threads I've read in a while - don't even know which of the complaints to take seriously and which are jokes (I'm assuming not getting your Spur chips an hour before supper was served is the latter). I think the organisers might be happy to see the back of some people posting in this thread.

Clearly some people clipped in on the wrong side of their bike on day 1 and just looked for faults for the next 3 days. We have now safely established that every single thing about W2W is not up to the standards expected by hubbers when compared to the 5 star hotels they are used to staying in while riding their bikes on the trails in France.

I got everything I expected out of it - nothing specifically remarkable, but a great 3 days of riding of which I spent a large portion wishing I had done some training. It's very well organised with plenty of food, drinks, toilets, showers for everyone (all the important parts covered - I'll even live with the chef not seasoning my steak correctly!).
