Has anyone used a Coral wetsuit for triathlons?

Hi folks,
I am wondering if anyone has any experience with using a wetsuit by 'Coral' (a wetsuit shop based in Cape Town). I have the opportunity to get a wetsuit made by them (they custom make), but not sure if I should since they don't specialise in tri gear, they are more generic manufacturers (surf, scuba, etc). I would appreciate if anyone has any feedback on the performance of their suits for triathlons or open water swimming in general, especially in comparison to something like an orca suit.

Thanks!

Hi

I don't have personal experience with their suits, but my wife had one custom made with them and she loves it.. Awesome quick service and well priced.

Also, seen MANY athletes sporting them at events I've tagged along to..

I had a "custom" made CORAL for my first two Ironmans. Great Suit.

Gave it to my brother-in-law and he still uses it.

I currently have an ORCA and the ORCA feels like a better faster suit but my swim times are still the same...  :whistling:

The Coral suits are cheaper and i have seen many of them at Triathlons!

Not sure if this helps!

I don't know about the triathlon specific Coral wetsuits. Looking at the pictures on the website, and they still look too much like a diving suit. They look extremely buoyant, which is great, but seems too thick and restrictive. Would love to hear someone compare the Coral to a 2XU or Xtrerra.

GlockG4, we cannot answer your question as it sounds like you have a fit issue. I would suggest going to a few stores and trying a few different brands and sizes. I have only ever used Sailfish wetsuits. They are relatively inexpensive compared to other brands, and fit well. It is a bit tight, but not to the point where I feel like I am being suffocated or feel restricted.

Hi guys, any new info on the coral wetsuite? I currently have a 2xu but i stuggle too breath in it? How does 2xu compair to orca?

I also battle with feeling like I can't properly open up my lungs in a wetsuit. Apart from the mental side - which I put most of my open water issues down to, the one thing that helped a lot was unzipping the front of my trisuit when putting the wetsuit over it. One less layer to constrict you.

It sounds silly, but it worked..

Bought a new one off the hub here & took it back to Coral to have it altered to my dimensions. Only really done 3 swims with it & had no issues. 1st swim was in an open dam & was quite surprised at how easily I could do 1,5km swim the furthest I’ve ever gone, I believe this was due to the buoyancy the suit offered.

@Alex what are your dimensions?

i started triathlon with a coral custom made on a argus weekend, measured me up and sent it - perfect fit,

Got a great 3 years out of it - still decent but cut it to a shorts type used in the outdoor pool when cold as i lot weight and needed a new suit.

If not for PE being blusmooth country i would have maybe gotten another coral - its pretty decent value for a average joe,

The blusmooth however runs specials from time to time and i got there mark2 suit priced at the entry level suits price and went that way.

check out blusmooth site : even there mark1 will pip the coral with 5mm chest and leg panels for maximum bouyancy and not restrictive with 2mm sholder & arm pieces.

My blusmooth suit is now 2years old and i still got a free repair when the zip broke (completely my fault)

blusmooth for the win.

Hey there G

where are you feeling the pressure?. If you on the top end of the 2xu sizing range then how you apply it will make all the difference.
