Dodgy Seller

I think it can self-regulate, and I think that shops who are on the "Verification" list would be more inclined to respond quickly and appropriately to rants.  If there is 1 thing I have noticed is that shops that are the subject of a rant run away from responding, and then they get smashed up as a result.  This may well encourage a faster and more responsive type of behaviour from shops that are more "involved" in the hub.

As for fee, I am curious to have responses from any shop owners on this point.  Would it not suffice (i.e. no fee) to be a named and listed as a Hub verifier, which would hopefully steer more traffic to your shops?

I don't think the potential PR is nearly enough to sway many bike shop owners to allocate time and energy to verify the state of a second-hand product. How would a bike shop be adjudged to be a suitable business to verify the condition of something? Why should any shop be encouraged to answer to any rant posted on this forum?

A bikeshop in each city centre can provide a service for The Hub who can verify the item for sale at a % comm? That would be the safest I think if you buying and selling from out of town.

In order to become an authorised seller, an account should be created, with all important information such as copy of ID, passport, location, working contact number, land line and cellphone, whether home or work. Work contact number (although not sure how valid this is as it shouldnt become a problem for his company etc).

Only once all of the above is in place, should the guy be allowed to sell anything. The profile needs to be confirmed before they are allowed to post anything.

The fact that somebody can just lodge an ad and take somebody for a ride is the problem here, there needs to be more control around who can actually sell.

Might be a ton of additional work but if the Hub had to appoint a middle man to receive the funds, and once the buyer has the goods and is happy, the funds get released to the seller. I dont see this working, but something is needed.

GUYS go to any forum,,,if there was//is  a GOLDEN RULE/SWEAT SPOT do you not think it would be in place???(only to be side tracked eventually)

common sense,

get a hubber //lbs to check it out if you out of town,

my personal one go with a forum member who positively adds value,,,,,,,,AGAIN THAT IS A PERSONAL CHOICE its my money ,,,i spend it how I LIKE

the way i see THEHUBSA there are many active hubbers who have excellant track records and reps, there are tons of parts coming up if you want it WAIT FOR THE RIGHT PRICE, THE RIGHT Sale,, TRUST YOUR GUT OR PAY THE SCHOOL FEES

RUSHING DEALS ONLY MAKE IT EASY FOR SCAM ARTISTS. if you dont know the hubber ask does he have a hubber who can vouch for him/parts

(MOST HUBBERS KNOW HUBBERS WHO KNOW HUBBERS)

there is no perfect system, HIT REPORT, this is AFRICA BROTHER BE ALERT

I am in agreement. However Admin and co believe it is too great a barrier to involvement for many people who simply want to use the classifieds only. As such it is better to emply a safe system such as the one you have on an individual basis!

I'm watching to see if you see a deal and chirp the seller that you would love to buy but can't as they are not rouxjtie post count approved yet! hehe

dont joke, going to spring(read autumn) clean soon and yes there will be a post count requirements.

Too many barriers with all the other credit card scheme etc.

The best way to trade on here, is to be a regular and if you are making an out of province\town purchase where you cannot view the item yourself, then ask a regular hubber who lives in the same town to go and view the item for you.

We are a communty after all!

Jip. I received fantastic support from hubbers. Had 4 different hubbers check out the bike. Thats 4 different perspectives.I could make an informed decision from those opinions. I am mega happy with the purchase made.

I was wondering if you were going to advertise something at some stage and stick to that!

I have already facilitated one sale at The Trailhead. But I like the idea of a commission based system otherwise we will be inundated with this "free" service.

There was also a guy who asked if we could value his bike and inform the buyer including the condition of parts as he'd just had it serviced here. But buyer never showed.

Thanks Delgado

My LBS has sent them to a guy in Durban who is also excellent. I have seen some of his work. Luckily it is the rear wheel. I'm not sure i would be 100% confident if it was the front one

Remember that the rear wheel is the weight-bearing one and works the hardest.

The risk is still there.

Hope you're safe and confident with them on return.

Sterkte.

If I cannot go and see the goods, and purchase them...then I look at the buyers ratings, how long he has been registered on the hub and how many posts. If I am not comfortable, then I wont buy an item, no matter what the price.

He is a man of principle so I have no doubt he will!

Thanks for the confidence NSBB. And yes, I will stick to it...not to prove a point but rather to help someone that is part of hubland.

Time to open yea ol bike box tonight and spring clean....take photo's next to this month's scope magazine to verify I am not a scammer
