I wash my gf with soapy water and a sponge bru. Bikes dont need to shine every time you go ride them. It's so sad how guys silicone and polish their bikes so much. Its a bike! If you have time and energy to do that you clearly didn't ride long enough.

Done that too! Beers were good and it was awesome practicing my whips into the pool!

The best method is to start emptying your pockets as you cycle through your gate so that by the time you get to the pool all the non water proof stuff is on the lawn and you just keep on riding straight into the pool!

5 minutes later and you are cool and your bike is clean. Easy.

Get some silicone for your gf, you may want to spend less time riding your bike????????????

I eagerly await the "My rear hub, headset and BB bearings are shot after only 1000km" thread.

But seriously, I find that more and more I tend to just use a damp cloth and wipe my bikes in the evening in front of the tv. Only time I get the hose out is when it is really muddy.

R120 for a wash is a bit ridiculous. I enjoy washing my bike after a Saterday morning ride, it takes me almost a hour, but after that she is pretty and shiny. During the week when I dont have time I just rinse and lube. I also dont take my bike to the LBS dirty, I would not appreciate someone bringing me a dirty bike to work on, but I expect them to wash it after the service(not for R120). As for dropping the bike and scratching it...hahaha you will be in for a less that plesant day. That being said, it depends on how they handle the bike, accidents do happen.

I wash after pretty much every ride. Hose down, apply heavily diluted prepsol with biggest paint brush on market. Allow to Stand for a few minutes while I clean group set with soft long bristle scrubbing brush and rinse. Done and dusted.

Bike wash:  that's why I have a teenager son, among other things they're useful for.  He has to work for that new Giant XTC Advanced SL frame I bought him.

120 rondt is more than a bit much!

I pretty much do my own wrenching, but if I ever have cause to take a bike in I give it a quick rinse with soapy water and rinse off with a hose pipe. Takes all of ten minutes tops and it's just really common decency and respect towards the guys you expect to work on your faithful steed.
Or maybe that's old fashioned.

When washing a bike, it's a diluted mix of bike wash soap (Red Hot, Powasol, Pyga etc) liberally spray that all over, on occasion a spray degreaser on the drivetrain. The liberal dosing depends on how muddy the ride was.
Hose that off with either a hose pipe or power washer, leave to dry and lube the chain later. Sometimes if I'm bother I'll give the bike a wipe down with a rag.
This generally takes me 15 minutes.

Really not adverse to a power washer, it's more efficient, uses less water and with the right nozzle adjustment and using it no closer than a metre. It's actually better than a hosepipe.
The problems with power washers are people using these high end industrial types and going for proctologist approach instead of finesse.
Sort of like students when they binge drink.

Got thrashed as a laaitie if I didn't look after my things. This habit follows through to my house, car, fishing equipment and pretty much every thing I own. I'm proud of the stuff I've worked my ass off for, why not show it.

I have kids, so by the time i come back from a ride I have used up all my free time credits, I am lucky to wash my bike once a month!!! I do put oil on the chain much more often, cos those guys are expensive!!!!!!!
