SwissVan Posted March 3, 2015 Posted March 3, 2015 If you push a cyclist off the road (on purpose) then you deserve to be banned. It doesn't matter who you or they are. Regarding getting pushed off the road.... I think you will find that it happens more often than you think at that level...even at professional pro tour level...think back to Theo Bos and Darryl Impey just as an example.
johannrissik Posted March 3, 2015 Posted March 3, 2015 A bit disturbing to still see this behavior around & especially in our circle of sport, the Pro's & Role Models kids look up to. A roadside spat between several cyclists has thrown Cycling SA into a fierce race rowWhat was supposed to be a peaceful cycling race for a good cause ended up in a disciplinary hearing and a court case. This after Luthando Kaka, South Africa’s first black cyclist to race abroad professionally and to lead a cycling club, was called a k*ffir. While taking part in the Dis-Chem Ride for Sight race in Boksburg last month, Kaka was verbally abused in a racist rant by fellow cyclists when he stood up for a young black cyclist, Siyabonga Somchiza, who had been forced off the road by Chris Jooste.Jooste allegedly tried to run Somchiza off the road after he refused to go past him. Immediately after that, another cyclist, Dusty Day also hit Somchiza and pushed him completely off the road.It was at this point that Kaka felt he had to intervene. He allegedly told Day to stop taking advantage of the young man and that his behaviour was unacceptable. This angered Day, who later called Kaka a k*ffir. When Kaka told Day that he would report him to Cycling SA, the white cyclist told him that if he reported him, he would make Kaka’s life miserable.Jooste and Day have been suspended by the cycling body.Kaka’s lawyer, Themba Mthethwa, says the cycling body later also suspended his client.“I can’t understand why [Kaka] was also suspended, which is why we decided to take the matter to the courts,” he says. Initially, when ordered by the court to lift Kaka’s suspension, Cycling SA refused to do so. The court ultimately forced them to lift the suspension. The matter has now also been referred to the South African Police Service and the Human Rights Commission.“The interesting part about the case is that the guy who was pushed by the other cyclist is a young boy from a township cycling club from Khayelitsha. So what they are basically saying is that township people shouldn’t participate in cycling races,” Mthethwa says.He adds that a great deal of transformation is still needed to level the playing field in cycling.Cycling SA says the case has been handed over to the disciplinary commission, pending the investigation of the incident. The investigation’s findings will apparently be released tomorrow.http://www.destinyconnect.com/2015/03/02/cycling-sa-embroiled-in-a-race-row/ Is the Chris Jooste referred to a youngster with reddish hair who comes from Prince Albert? If it is, it doesn't wouldn't surprise me.
Wyatt Earp Posted March 3, 2015 Posted March 3, 2015 who the hell cares if the guy intervening was black, white, pink (magento), green or blue. Two guys were allegedley bullying a younger rider. Another rider stepped in. Ban the blinken riders.* *Unless there is another side to this story. There usually is, but no-one cared to ask the two accused? Usual Hub justice... Sias, normally I would agree. But in this case I think it has run its course to get to this level.I am sure by now all reports would have been made public. The only way I can see this story only having one side is if it's one of those "they will do anything to see the white guys go down" but Kaka also got suspended .My guess is that CSA decided "what is good for the goose is good for the gander" to save face and make it look as if they are doing their jobs . Clearly Kaka's attorney feels he has a case .I would love to have the story of how the spat initially happened .
sias Posted March 3, 2015 Posted March 3, 2015 I am sure by now all reports would have been made public. That's the thing, nothing has been made public! I just happened to hear it in hushed tones at one of our meetings in Northwest.I'm the MTB rep for NW and these things usually spread very quickly. Nada, zip, nothing...
Rocket-Boy Posted March 3, 2015 Posted March 3, 2015 And the racists defense begins as it always does. let me guess, these are mitigating circumstances to using the K word right.....? Your reading ability is seriously lacking. The post you quoted said he does not condone it at all.Stop trying to turn this thread into a racial spat.
urbanroyal Posted March 3, 2015 Posted March 3, 2015 Ok Sias. ...so what happened. ...in hushed tones please...☺
sias Posted March 3, 2015 Posted March 3, 2015 Ok Sias. ...so what happened. ...in hushed tones please...☺Let's wait for the tribunal to go through all the evidence and hear both sides' stories. The story I heard also came from one side...
American Flyers Posted March 3, 2015 Posted March 3, 2015 I understand how racing goes? Everybody likes to put you around and we have to fight back or stop them from putting you around. Those guys need to grow up and stop being racist. CSA guys should explain to us why ban all 4 guys? We are members of CSA and we need to know...
GoLefty!! Posted March 3, 2015 Posted March 3, 2015 Your reading ability is seriously lacking. The post you quoted said he does not condone it at all.Stop trying to turn this thread into a racial spat. it only becomes what you want if you let it... just saying
Pure Savage Posted March 3, 2015 Posted March 3, 2015 On a positive note, I see the two riders that have been banned were seeded $ for the Cycle Tour, does that mean two people get upgraded to $ seeding from 1A? I assume the CTCT would not allow them to start after this. Think this as a much worse offence than hitting a fan driver with your front wheel and that guy got banned from that Cycle Tour.

sias Posted March 3, 2015 Posted March 3, 2015 Those guys need to grow up and stop being racist. I fully agree, black and white!CSA guys should explain to us why ban all 4 guys? Usually in an assault case (example), both the victim and the aggressor are suspended pending a disciplinary hearing. If it was found that the victim was indeed innocent, he is re-instated.
scotty Posted March 3, 2015 Posted March 3, 2015 Pity it happened during a race with such a good cause. That CSA suspended Kaka and then dug their heels when asked to initially lift it looks like they believe they had some justification for suspending him.

Unlikely, they will threaten to sue and then extra evidence will be created introduced that creates a different and conflicting tone to the charges and all charges will be dropped and they will be allowed to race.
Hennie VR Posted March 3, 2015 Posted March 3, 2015 Messed up world, the bullies get off and the victim gets suspended.Isn't Day's daddy involved in CSA ? If I read the OP statement correctly all the riders got suspended and thus no one "got off"
