Dont Giant make Specialized??

http://www.cyclingweekly.co.uk/news/merida-enters-the-pro-ranks-32911

"Merida finds itself with a headquarters and research and development centre in Germany, manufacturing locations in Taiwan and mainland China, and, thanks to a shrewd business acquisition, it owns nearly 40 per cent of Specialized. Production-wise, Merida now only makes frames for itself, its in-house brand Centurion and Specialized."

Remember this thread from last year? https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/137225-no-gps-tracking-allowed/page-4?hl=+endomondo%20+epic Last year the organisers sent some nasty letters to some people who uploaded their epic rides on strava threatening lifetime bans... So not quite a blanket ignore, but I'm sure not everybody got letters.

This one would make a good caption contest photo

i know, it's ridiculous. someone at grandstand HQ has the job of going through strava, endomondo et al to try and see who's been a naughty boy.

this is 2015, not 1975 with Verwoerd scared of television corrupting the masses. I don't think routes on strava make people trespass, it's the people who don't give a *** who are going to do it anyway.

agreed but im sure it gives the land owners a small bit more piece of mind,,,,ie. selling them the idea of it being a once off and EPIC wannabee wont come through there land,,,but jaaaa its pointless in this day and age of tech.

Well they could all do it and just mark it private if they are using it to track their training etc. So it comes down to the person and their commitment to complying with requests.

Don't want to sound disparaging but how many of those commenting about what is needed to do Epic have completed it and have experienced the achievement of crossing the line on that last day irrespective of your ability, size or fitness level?

I'm Wishing there was an emoticon for holding my tongue

Sure you can be super fit, but if you break a collarbone in the first stage (because of bad luck or lack of preparation), that fitness means nothing. The top riders, be it road or mtb, spend a lot of time working on their bike handling skills. They know that you make your own luck, and you have to work on all aspects of your game.

Interesting that so many amateurs seems to think that cycling is only about fitness.

And that is why the amateurs finish at the back, because participation and finishing is more important than planing on wining.

But is that not what makes mass participation events such a mish mash ball of fun. It is a complete matrix of guys who are fit and technically proficient to those who are unfit and cant ride a bike but hang on for dear life and still somehow finish, albeit in a few different pieces.
