No doubt she is. And yes I agree she could have worked harder to get seeded in the elite group.

I still think it would make ladies racing more interesting if the separation between them and the men was a little more clear.

Anyway it's really non of my business. Quite like my MTB but not a fan of racing MTB.

That paragraph there actually says so much in one go.

The ladies are kinda in the shadow when it comes to coverage and some hype round them, not just would it be good for racing but also for their sponsors and coverage for their own well deserved talents .

The men become household names, very few ladies do .

So the same thing G-R blogs about gets rephrased differently by one of the Hubbers & all of a sudden it's an "excellent idea" & that's why I love the hub :-)

Perhaps that's all it takes.

Saying it right the first time around .

Generally you can state a problem in such a way as to apportion blame or to seek a solution. Same problem but usually the latter is better received.

Most of her post is extremely positive about the Epic and it's competitors... (see below)

She just want's the ladies race to be on a par with the mens - something many of us probably agree on having had it brought to our attention. I'm not sure she fancies ever taking on Annika and Ariane, but somebody might want too? It's about an equal footing, that is all

Thanks -I agree. Her comments were generic, not about her. For a race that has equal prize money for men and women and thus sees itself as a women's race, it needs to think carefully about this kind of situation.

I bet next years rules would have changed because of her input.

From me there is only respect

There are two fundamental changes the Absa Cape Epic must make if they want to promote women's cycling. Until then the TRUE depth and ability of women's pro-cycling will remain to be unseen.

1. The biggest problem lies in the rule regarding identical jerseys - Cape Epic stipulates that women's team must wear identical clothes. For most professional women this is where the story ends before it's even started. How many trade teams have two women? Not many!!! Consequently, theonly way to form a partnership is under the banner of a charity team or a neutral sponsor (as in my case Sellaronda Hero). But why should our trade teams - who pay our salaries - allow us to race for another unrelated team???!!! It is of no benefit to them whatsoever! This, I believe, is the greatest barrier for professional women in the Cape Epic. There are many talented women I would love to race the Cape Epic with and many who I believe I could go for victory with, but they are unable to race with me because of sponsor clashes. Until the Cape Epic review this rule, the real level and depth of women's pro-racing will remain undiscovered.

2. The women should have a separate start. Current rules stipulate that only the top 3 women's teams start in the first block. This is a problem within itself, but the critical problem is the influence the men have on the women's race. The dynamics of women's racing are critically different in a race where men and women start together compared to when women have a separate race. Racing amongst the men simply becomes about which women's team catches the fastest male train. If you aren't on that train then the race is more or less over within minutes from the starting gun. The Cape Epic would see a much more interesting, closely fought race amongst the women if we could race together.

In Gunn-Rita's words: "I've never felt so unfairly treated as a woman". Perhaps her opinion and feedback will be the catalyst for change. Until then I'm reluctant to participate again.

Seems like she is not the only one who feels this way...

I do feel that if there is a women's cat the elite ladies should start in their own batch. As they did with the Argus this year.. not only better for the competition but sponsors get more exposure and so too the ladies. She also makes a very valid point about the whole.. must wear same shirt thing.. this is really limiting some very nice possible team ups.

Queue more woman bashing from hub dinosaurs

Nah woman came after dino's became extinct

Somehow to me (IMHO) Sally's way of pointing it out, her language and layout (not in a diary format) comes across much better.

EDIT:

IMHO SB has raised some very good points.

Point 1 (team shirts) would also have a potential big impact on the men's elite teams.

I was under the impression the sages here on the Hub had this sorted already

Maybe English is her first language  :whistling:

What gave her the courage/incentive to post this...

A lot gets lost in translation..

The top ladies have been fighting for a long time to promote ladies cycling. . They are getting there slowly. This can only help IMO.. it's not about excuses for losses it's about improving female racing as a whole. I am also of the opinion that for any cycling team to get a pro licence they have to have a female team. . (That's just my opinion of course)

You're more receptive because this is the second woman to voice the same issues. The male brain treats shock in this manner along the journey to acceptance of the truth

I think if the First Lady carried her point ACCROSS less emotionally most would not have chirped, as I said in my first or second chirp she could just have carried over her message in a less dramatic way,
