Age starts to catch you after 40. Up until then you can train harder, there after injuries are natures way of saying slow down.

Noooooooo, I'm turning 40 on the 12th of April, now I'm starting to get freaked out about my birthday. [emoji85]

Most of my older mates are just getting stronger,,,bastids

When me and my mate started riding I could ride circles around him (never did out've respect) and he is 8yrs older than me, then i changed jobs and for almost a year i did very little riding, where, in contrast he continued riding and more when he took up road as well.

Now he rides circles around me and I doubt I'll get to the same level again.

For the endurance races often the "older" guys/girls are stronger (just look at Ironman times) just makes it easier to compare apples with apples... :whistling:

Found this to be very true imo. In 5h+ event people tend to be older. I dont know why this is, or mayby I am just to slow so I always slug around with the toppies/tannies. I guess finances also plays a big role.

Some of the guys I ride with are half my age and they can't keep up. BUT then we have a 16 year old that blasts through the trails like the wind.

I'm turning 40 in September and have been throwing the age card for the last year already. If you older than the okes you ride with, throw it man, you deserve it.

btw, i'm the strongest I have ever been on the bike and hope that when I'm 60 I will be like that old timers that just carry on and on

I must admit that for the first time in many years, I have been stronger this year on the bike as well. I have a cycling buddy, i think he is about 57 and he rides the same uphill more than 2 times up and down while we're on a ride, coming down every time to encourage us "skilpaaie". And I'm doing the Baviaans on 22 August for the first time this year as well.
