Pro kit? Every other sport does it!

I'm pondering lately why in cycling compared to any other sport, if you wear the pro kit of the team you like it's considered ponsy and a general no no. Why is this, we all don our favorite football tops or rugby jerseys, people go to rugby practice in their replica kit, and tons of people play indoor in their kit, so why do cyclists take such a strange vibe toward people supporting the teams they like by wearing a replica kit?

speak for yourself. I know plenty of people (myself included) who don't and never will.

probably because of a belief in the "rules"

Rule #17
// Team kit is for members of the team.

Wearing Pro team kit is also questionable if you’re not paid to wear it.  If you must fly the colors of Pro teams, all garments should match perfectly, i.e no Mapei jersey with Kelme shorts and Telekom socks.

Good Point. I have last years Giant Shimano kit and wear it complete bar the gloves(still waiting for my LBS to organise gloves from the supplier). I am wanting to get the new Giant Alpecin kit but the problem is I will need to get the new giant helmet to match, I get it but my wife doesn't, She cant understand why I need a 4th helmet(explaining that I needed new complete matching kit for tandem riding was hard enough).

Will we be told not the get the team-issue replica bikes as well? A lot of the sponsors WANT you to wear their kits as a way of promoting them. I have a pair of Qhubeka bib-shorts, and I'll wear it the way I want.

Haha you make a very good point. I don't like it when someone wears a pro-kit but I have no problem with rugby jerseys. Don't knoe why, double standards!

If someone wears Qhubeka kit, I feel they are supporting the team and raising awareness.

If they wear any other kit, I feel they are trying to copy them. Not sure how my mind works.

Any winner jerseys are a no no. Had a guy in my bunch for 94.7 riding with headphones and The Yellow jersey...

It's really special when a rider is kitted out all in one brand and I mean E V E R Y thing.

Helmet - top - gloves - bike - tyres - bottles - tools - socks - e v e r y t h i n g.

And colour coded on top of it - oops I think it only comes in one colour range.

What amazes me is that the rugby teams have not jumped on the cycling kit bandwagon and brought out team-branded kit for cycling.  The Bulls, Sharks and Stormers would make a fortune.  I know I would wear a Sharks shirt for my Saturday morning ride on match days.

Well maybe not this season, but normally!
