Anybody wanna give me a bike?

Hello all.

I recently was given the Big Blue Book of bicycle repair.

Love it.

Long story short, i am actually a mechanical moron, but have really enjoyed tinkering with the book and a toolkit.

I have decided to take on a bigger challenge and basically strip down and rebuild (with a few minor upgrades) a bike.

Seeing as i am mechanically moronic, i am looking for a really cheap MTB that someone has lying around.

Preferably a medium (so i can fit on it for test rides etc)

Not super fussy really, i just dont want to buy something new or take on of my bikes and cock it up.

If anyone has an unfinished build that they have no intention of finishing or something lying around, please let me know.

Prefer free  :whistling:  But i actually don't really mind paying for something either but i dont want to be scared of its value and damaging it.

Long shot, i know, but if it doesn't work, i shall just buy a fake dogma on gumtree. (ok, that was a really bad joke)

Thanks Folks

Strip and rebuild one of your own Wayne... Will focus you more to ensure you learn and do it right

It may seem daunting but is not difficult with the blue book, YouTube and hub advice

Never owned a bike I never built, outside of the very first silverback strider I got at westdean cycles that is.

Did my first build with a friend and YouTube.....u gonna love it.

This is something that's been on mind for the last couple of months, building up my own bike, lightweight, carbon hardtail, with no time limit, just a fun loving projects with a goal in mind :) ...yes! ;)

I also enjoy working on my own bikes and have built my last two bikes up myself. Its an great feeling being able to fix or build something yourself,it makes you feel proud of what you are able to do.

Why not rebuild that new Cube Wayne? That will really get you focussed on getting everything wright first time.[emoji48]

Wayne take the above advice you have more stock than a few LBS , as said you will make more of an effort to do it right as you know the client is a box and he is difficult rough oKE from Benoni

First of all....you okes COMPLETELY overestimate my mechanical ability.

Its flattering.

OK, so here is my plan.

I am gonna buy a old bike off of here or olx. Fix it up and give it to DiverNick for his Build a bike initiative.

Built my first bike with the help of GCN on youtube, and a friend that helped with the cabeling. Love riding it knowing i built it. Wont ever buy a bike I didnt build myself again.

Wayne, word of advice, read, reread and read again, on how to fit components, play around with it, make sure you have the feel for it...

This will prevent you from scratching your head after you've fitted compoenents, trying to figure out why it does not work properly...

Also, it is the most fun I had stripping a bike completely and refitting all the components onto a different frame.... I can assure you, if you can hold a screw driver, you'll be able to put a bike together...

Cheers, all the best and again, ensure you understand how to align components, once you have that, your sorted....
