Lets confuse things a bit,

Hope Pro Evo 2 Hubs, all thumbs up... No one can argue with them.

So the AC Wide Lightenings seem to have a bad rep.

The Flow EX's are rock solid but heavy.

Both above about R6500/wheelset

The AC Carbonators are awesome, but expensive, R17000/wheelset.

Whats available in the middle, with a 22mm+ inside diameter.

cant see why they have a bad rep,i hurt my wheels often and they still hold a tubeless tyre even with the 2 dents. Personally I rate them . And as I said earlier pedal so easy it's ridiculous .

It's easy:

If you ride like a neanderthal, buy the Hope/Flows.

If you can ride like a fairy, buy the Am Classic.

Do you bomb through rocks, or do you float over rocks?

I opened up a thread on this topic about a year back. I ended up going AC. All those stories about AC's being fragile are old news. The more recent rims are rock solid. Absolutely no issue with mine after a year, with some tough riding and some falls through rocky sections. They hold true and spin forever.

I weigh 82 though, so can't talk about heavier riders.

The extra width is amazing. It really pulls those tires out and grip is unbelievable. As far as I know, the AC have the widest rims.

Verdict: couldn't be happier with my ACs

I have Wtb i23 with Hope hubs and its damn solid, mine are 27.5 not 29er. Had Flow ex before on my 29er and could not fault them, weigh on them was not a issue for me as I'm a big guy as well so rather wanted it strong and not break on me when I do a jump or give them horns.

I am busy looking for a set of Eastons new Arc 30 hoops.

They are wide. But not that wide.

If you want even wider you can go Stans Hugo, Velocity blunt 35, Dually, etc

I have the ZTR Flow's + Hope Pro2's. Can not be happier with them. Have seen a fair ammount of abuse over the past 3 years and so far they still run true. Had to replace some spokes (stick through rim) but nothing serious. Weigh about 95kgs kitted out. Bike - Niner RIP9.

I need to learn that floating method . Which I do occasionally it's just generally not attached to the bike ????

one question on the AC's. Have they increased the engagement on the freehub? i have an older set and they are great and spin beautifully but the slow freehub is irritating sometimes.
