As an outsider the authorities stance is a bit puzzling. I understand from a mate in NZ that towns actually build trails and try to encourage MTB'ers to visit  More better.

In CT they seem obsessed with the opposite.

My point exactly!!!

Is there someone 'official' out there who can give us cyclists some idea of how long it will take to get the signage in place and grant permission to cycle the 'cork tree trail'.

Just a clue....., and then i am sure we are all prepared to continue cycling out of town.

Make an anouncement in the press or on air (not in this forum as not all cyclists use "thehubsa")

Would it be to much to ask for TMNP to make an announcement?

I do understand that as Sanparks they have a "protocol" to follow whether it be now or next year!

However, I do business with some government branches and army is included. They buy now and pay later. Pay later is sometimes like 8 months.

So why cant one of the MTB make a similar arrangement with sanparks in a sense of getting signage up immediately and then sanparks reimburse that group

SANP should employ a social media manager who is able to address the current online banter that surrounds its performance or lack thereof(they may have one already, I don't know). A good starting point would be a Hub account so that they can gauge and talk to the cycling community, however, I fear that they may just be attacked every time a post is made.

Can admin contact SANP head office and propose this?

Just a thought.

It's been suggested in meetings with HOD's - not possible due to the extensive needs in each area.

We think of Parks as one body looking after table mountain but forget they have thousands of employees each running with an individual project covering everything from social to environmental heritage, through to conservation.

The answer is not as clear cut as some have presented in 3-4 lines.

This should have been decided from day 1 before the announcement made..

Fact is the "agreement on paper" was done around the table bypassing the process that is required. It was a letter of intent. It scored some social media points, that much is a fact.. but at what cost?

I fully support the link between North and South but understand that promises cannot be supported indefinitely. Frustration sets in when things take too long and the people who suffer are the ones on the ground getting fined, riding out of anger at the people who are employed in a position to administer the mountain. Remember, we are discussing a national reserve.

I love how people reckon if the rangers weren't out fining "entitled" mountainbikers (who are making use of public property that their taxes sustain - the bloody audacity of it all!) they'd actually be out catching criminals who are scaring away tourists, killing jobs (and people) and denying the paying public the simple enjoyment of a day out.

Cute.

It's hard to keep my wife motivated to stay in this sh*ithole country when I tell her how free one is to enjoy public facilities (built and natural) in the Alps without any fear of crime or harrasment by overzealous officials (because they actually like people enjoying themselves), whilst here we have to arm ourselves just to go ride our bike.  But hey, signage my bru!  Signage!!!!

Rationalise away.  The Stockholm Syndrome is strong with you lot.

This whole post is a bit rich given it is written by someone that often posts asking people to pay and stick to the rules when riding Paarl.

So which is it? Do what you want or follow the rules?

That would have to be one brave employee with the thickest skin imaginable.

Rob Vogel should not have posted that Cecelia forest in open - AS IT IS NOT - until ......

My question is also - what is the point of the cork oak trail being open - it neither leads on to or leads off another trail. As far as i can see it it is a safer route than the road for commuters. Cecelia forest itself cannot accommodate all the users and mtbers.

It's more than just signage though, by the looks of things somebody jumped the gun on announcing something before a full agreement had been met.

Please, we are not here to consider the other users.
