Can anyone give advice on what deep section wheelset is suitable for a 96kg rider that will use it for training and racing. Wheelset weight is not really a factor. I currently ride easton ea 50 aeros and want a similar bombproof wheel just deeper.

Thanx!

Have Used Shimano Dura ace 50mm...very strong. Cracked back rim when hitting a massive pothole at 70km p/h....so expected wheel to be in pieces. Hubs are great...not that light though, but love them.

Thanx for the replies, appreciate it. Budget is about 12 to 15k, wife might shoot me otherwise. The Dura Aces are very nice but way over budget. The cosmics are a option then since they are in budget. Heard good things about those. I will look into the DT swiss, no real experience with them.

Thanx guys

I have a set of Sram s80/s60 Combo's for sale. Apparently they are very strong. Bought them in April, but looking for a shallower set, which is why they are for sale.

I am 94kgs on a good day and had 2 rear wheel replacements by the agents in as many years...so I will not recommend these wheels, although they roll leka and look nice

Thats a good set of wheels.

Are you having problems with the wheels?

Did you change the nipples of the wheels?

CONCEPT from Leonard (CCD on the hub) - 50mm clinchers 25mm wide. Can get a set that takes up to 120kg if im not mistaken.

Price is under R10k so can get some nice new tires and a little something for the wife too :whistling: The service from him is faultless. Had my wheels rebuilt a month ago at no cost and he did a good 1 hour round trip to deliver them back to me.

Cosmics and Zipp both have a alu "rim" inside the carbon wheel that the spokes go into, which makes it much stronger, the Dura Ace has the spokes going straight into the carbon, and I know ZIPP also come with heavy duty spokes and various spoke counts.... they even cater for Tandems

I am building up some U shaped deep carbon rims at the moment.  Supposedly stronger than the usual V shaped of the same weight and initially designed for cyclocross use.  The supplier I have chosen will supply up to 55mm depth and 16 to 36 hole options.  With that you can build one strong mother of a wheel!
