Plentipotential Posted August 17, 2015 Share I always lay my bike down on the floor, seemed to be fine. However I just spoilt myself and the bike by buying a simple rack from Thule. Like this one which is for sale here on the Hub at a better price than I paid. So easy and quick and whilst you are out on the trails it can be secured safely in you vehicle. Great investment if you have a tow ball.

Just bear in mind that a lot of insurers now require for a bike rack to be locked or bolted to the tow plate / ball, and for the bike to be locked to the rack. I know you can make up your own thick blanket type cover, but the Thule one does look a lot better!
Eddy Gordo Posted August 17, 2015 Share Also when hanging your front wheel over the tailgate, just make sure that wheel is clear of the exhaust. The heat from it will cause your tyre to burst
TALUS Posted August 17, 2015 Share Is this thing lockable? I don't use my other racks much anymore.
Sepia Posted August 17, 2015 Share Does anyone know roughly what these 2 options cost? I know you can make up your own thick blanket type cover, but the Thule one does look a lot better!I made mine myself. Less than R150. I have a spare QR fitting if you want it (cost of a pizza!) and I used a flat bar from scrap metal buyers. Drilled two holes, 2 bolts and primer. Easy peasy and body work untouched. popcorn_skollie Posted August 17, 2015 Share http://i.imgur.com/cbWrQgt.jpg I just gooi a blanket. Bikes are never left unattended on my bakkie. Here's an old thread about ordering tailgate covers.
T-Bob Posted August 17, 2015 Share I've got a Navara and a canopy and I just throw mine in if it's the one. If it's 2 - 3 then wheel off and just stand them up. Couple of straps to the load bin fasteners and its fine. Any more and it's kinda like this... http://www.adventure-journal.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/dailybike_pickup660.jpg

popcorn_skollie Posted August 17, 2015 Share It would be nice to use this thread to see some of the DIY contraptions hubbers made to their bakkies. I would love a rack built in for 3 or 4 bikes that will leave enough room for my surfboards when the bikes aren't there. Just not motivated enough to actually build something. these links are quite usefullhttp://forums.mtbr.com/car-biker/pick-up-truck-bike-racks-691599.htmlhttp://forums.mtbr.com/car-biker/show-your-diy-truck-bed-bike-racks-830579-2.html

popcorn_skollie Posted August 17, 2015 Share HmmmmmmmmmeeerrrrrmmmmmmmHaha. I had the exhaust checked out friday. The entire line must be replaced. From manifold to tailpiece. It should make slogging up those hills a little more bearable.
ratherberidin' Posted August 17, 2015 Share Simple really. Put it on upright, nose to the front so it looks beastly. Take an old MTB tube - hook one end on the ears/hooks on the side of the bak, wrap around top tube/down tube/ seatpost, other end to the ears/hooks on the other side and bob's the uncle that thinks you bakkie looks fly. Puncture Kid Posted August 18, 2015 Share I use an alli bar with holdfast QR bolted onto it. Remove wheel, back your bike in and clamp. No need to tie down the rear wheel. Simple, sturdy and quick. This works for a canopy if it is high enough. Will send pics if required. Does not work with my road bike - saddle too high for the canopy.i used to do this on my bakkie inside my canopy. was easy and very reliable. kept the bikes in place
