LOL you reminded me of an old comrades marathon T shirt I got when I entered to run.

It was a really nice training t shirt and it eventually wore out from frequent use and washing.

One does not get the shirt for finishing, or even starting :)   At best you get it (implicitly) because you have qf'ed to start.    (You get a medal for finishing a race)

I have given many running (incl Comrades) shirts away to whoever - supporters, people who never will be able to run (races), charity donations etc, so what?   (It actually brought joy and motivation  to many of those.)

It is a garment with some printing on it, advertising a race.   (And yes, I am also still wearing the T of one of the Comrades's I had a DNS :)

Wish I had thought of this reply all those years ago ????

Well onto some good news! For the first time since all the niggles, I was back in the mountain yesterday! Holy cow, one quickly falls out of running uphill... Did the mind a LOT of good just be out there on foot again. Painful and painfully slow, but I was there. But the mountain is in horrible shape after the fire this week. It will heal, at least!

Legs are really feeling it today. I am officially a softie!

This is a great thread. Always worth coming over to see the comments.

It occurs to me that we runners are very fortunate, because we can go on running as usual while gyms etc. are being closed or restricted.

It also occurred to me, watching a few cycling groups going by me in Fourways on Saturday, that group riding is way too close for social distancing, especially when drafting. I guess snot rockets will be banned (at last)?

Yup...I went out Sunday morning on my own and didn't come across another runner. In fact in my 70 minutes of running I went across...a walker... And 3 separate people cycling.

Interestingly enough the cyclists were clearly people that don't ordinarily cycle. Came across about 5 or 6 cars maximum

I’ve noticed the exact opposite here, I think it’s the “corona or now working from him effect”

Friday the local forest bike, hike, run, walk, picnic areas were packed.... went back on Sunday to run a TT route in the same Forest and it was slightly less packed, but the weather on Sunday was quite miserable with a cold howling wind.

I've have never seen so many morning runners in Johannesburg. Although the familiars run from 4:30 to about 6:00. These newbies are more 6:00 to 8:00 joggers

I woke up Saturday morning with a sore throat, so I decided to not go for my long run. Self medication seems to be helping and I am feeling much better.

My friends went to Cradle on Saturday to run. They reported back it was very very busy. Runners and cyclists. I guess we all just miss being outside.

I feel a lock down coming... Andrew, is your treadmill up for sale?

Same, also never seen so many people running or walking with dogs, babies and or prams as yesterday, in the afternoon no less...

Whether it was us just excited to get a gap between the thunder and lightening or escape the house, probably both.

An early onset of cabin fever? Us Saffers can't sit inside for too long, even with Netflix on offer.

Off topic, but you're talking about busy vs not busy... I noticed a lot more people in the mountain both days, yes.

But then Sunday afternoon my wife wanted to go for a quick Sunday drive. Not getting out, just a drive. As it happens we drove past some of the local VERY popular wine farms. We even drove in at one, because we could not believe what we were seeing. Never ever saw either of those places so quiet. Places where you have to book weeks in advance stood empty. If we wanted, we could walk in and order a pizza. But... better a bit of economy struggles than struggling with the effects of this virus and overloaded hospitals.

Surely we are able to go for a run? A lone 10/15k..

I'm gonna go mad otherwise..

Otherwise I'm gonna pretend I'm going to shop to buy bread and milk..

I think we can be sure of a few things during the next few weeks....

We're all going to have the cleanest houses, the most manicured lawns and the most "satisfied" wives (Stock up on protection boys and girls, unless you are planning for another one,). The dogs are going to be gatvol of playing fetch. All of  sudden there will be plenty of time to fix everything around the house you've been putting off the last few years. Kids will learn the meaning of "go play outside"

Nope you can't... That's the point of the lockdown... You might be able to run around the block repeatedly.. or do intervals up and down your street Edited by Stretch
