Mudsimus Posted January 5, 2017 Posted January 5, 2017 If you can run a solid 10, no walking, then a 21 wont be a problem. Just break the second 10ks into 2x5km and you'll be done before you know it. But it will still hurt????
Stretch Posted January 5, 2017 Posted January 5, 2017 (edited) 11 days and counting with no running. I can feel the plantar slowly improving.. But damn frustrating.. That said..I would rather wait for the inflammation to go down completely before running... it looks like the first half of Jan is going to be a write off Edited January 5, 2017 by Stretch Lexx and Mudsimus 2

Maybe your rear foot is pronating to much and hence the PF pain recurring constantly? Edited January 5, 2017 by SwissVan
Stretch Posted January 5, 2017 Posted January 5, 2017 What shoes do I run in and how long have u had them compared to your PF problem?Maybe your rear foot is pronating to much and hence the PF pain recurring constantly? dont think so..while i have gone from support to neutral i am pretty sure its overuse..resulted in plantar shear..I can feel a little hard bit at the end of the heel area where it is inflamed. physio also agrees with me. Just waiting for it to be healed properly
SeaBee Posted January 5, 2017 Posted January 5, 2017 Good luck, Stretch! Patience... you're approaching it the right way! I have a funny where it seems I've bought a pair of shoes that kills my front/forefoot. I simply cannot do anything longer than 10 k's in them without suffering, so they're only going to be used for those short "mileage eating on shoes" midweek runs. Never had that before. Amazing how different a shoe feels walking and even jogging around - and then even after 13 k's your feet are sending all kinds of hate mail to your brain.Have since read a review (d'oh)  where a guy says exactly this - he hates these shoes, his mate absolutely LOVES it... but he is a more forefoot runner and his mate strikes heel. Seems they were designed with the principle of heel striking.  Live and learn, they say... Hacc, Frosty and Stretch 3

Im at almost two weeks of no running. Just be strong, even if the pain is gone you will undo everything with just one run. My fisio told me that I can start slowly again two weeks after I didn't notice any pain.

Hacc Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 Happy New Year everyone!  I hope your 2017 running year will be amazing, injury free and you reach all your goals. So my race calendar for the year: (leaving out 15km/21km races)January - Johnson Crane 42km (Didn't train as hard over Dec, so this is going to be a long day)February - Bronkhorstspruit 32km, Pretoria Deloitte's 42km (seriously stressing about this one... as it is very tough)March - Om die Dam 50km (I have a love-hate relationship with this race...)April - Two Oceans (was planning to do Loskop as well but it is a week after Two Oceans... too close to Two Oceans, so will be doing the Loskop Wild Challenge)May - Adrienne Hersch 21km and RESTING for the Big C My running goal for this year is to just enjoy running again and to feel normal while running (no nausea and no bailing at races). No time goals for 2017 at Comrades. My plan is to work towards a BR for 2018...  (There, I said it out loud and in writing...) Andrew Steer, ScottCM, Lexx and 1 other 4
GemmerKat Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 Hi Guys I am currently comfortable with running 5 and 10 km, actually planning on doing my first 21 in Feb and then marathon in March/April.We entered the TransBaviaans again this year so I need to do plan out my training. At least I know what to expect this time around. The main question is can I substitute some of my training on the bike with running.Time is a bit of a problem because I live in an area where there is no proper hills.  The idea is to run during the week, one long run on a Saturday with a ride on a Sunday. Perhaps mixing up the ride with hills and a long ride ?If time allows it to throw in a quick ride somewhere in the week.
IceCreamMan Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 Hit by the dreaded flu, in summer.... wtf. Had a big December on all disciplines so I guess rest was needed but today is day 5 with snot being shot out of both barrels and a furious rate has curbed my running. Was meant to do Kudos on sunday which I will need to miss I reckon. Deischem next week, Johnson crane hire 42 on the 29th. trust 2017 will realize all your running goals. I also run during the week and cycle over weekends. I only concentrate on running up to Comrades and then I start cycling again. Be careful for not overtraining. It is tough to ride a day after a long run. Good luck with your first 21km and 42km.Â
