Stretch Posted August 18, 2017 Posted August 18, 2017 You going from the frying pan into the fire I "hear" there are some pretty challenging trail runs in Europe and some have proper snow in ireland...its just cold rain and frozen mud
CobusV Posted August 18, 2017 Posted August 18, 2017 in ireland...its just cold rain and frozen mudJust out of curiosity - are you still planning to do Comrades in future(for instance next year), or do you think it is not going to be worth the hassle?
SwissVan Posted August 18, 2017 Posted August 18, 2017 in ireland...its just cold rain and frozen mudYears ago a friend of mine went to live in London and he often joked how is running shoes were always wet and growing moss.... and Londons weather is probably albeit fractionally better than Ireland's So ja you have my sympathies, snow is better to run in than rain or ice But if the locals can do it, so will you ???? Stretch Posted August 18, 2017 Posted August 18, 2017 Just out of curiosity - are you still planning to do Comrades in future(for instance next year), or do you think it is not going to be worth the hassle? yes..I do plan to come out..maybe not every year..but every off year hopefully. Next year is out of the cards though - these past three months alone have been very difficult to run and train due to the stress of the move..so I will not be able to commit fully to training until we are properly settled. Next years goal is therefore a couple of local marathons. Lexx and SwissVan 2

About 10 years ago I had the opportunity to go live and work in Europe in Northern Germany, but now with children (who mainly speak Afrikaans) that is not a possibility for us anymore. But looking back, everything always work out as it should.... Stretch, Andrew Steer and Chris_ 3
SwissVan Posted August 18, 2017 Posted August 18, 2017 Dont you just hate it when after sitting at a desk all day pushing keys while the sun shines outside and you looking forward to that training session when u get home....and the 6pm thunderstorm strikes
SwissVan Posted August 18, 2017 Posted August 18, 2017 They were not kidding, even the Sky satellite signal has gone Looks like I'll have to ride my IDT...dammit
ScottCM Posted August 21, 2017 Author Posted August 21, 2017 So how was everyone's weekend training wise?
Stretch Posted August 21, 2017 Posted August 21, 2017 So how was everyone's weekend training wise? managed to even get a ride in! ScottCM and Hacc 2
Hacc Posted August 21, 2017 Posted August 21, 2017 So how was everyone's weekend training wise?Well, a couple of swear words come to mind... but this is a family thread so I will behave. Did my first 21km after Comrades. I probably chose the most difficult 21km in Gauteng for a "come back". The Arthrochoice race is just pure torture. Midrand is not flat and not very forgiving for unfit people like me. I have some work to do before Adrienne Hersch on the 10th of September (which is also a tough route) Kudos to Midrand Striders for a well-organised race. (They can sort out the admin part of things, goody bag and number collection were a mess). I have never seen so many JMPD members actually doing their jobs and helping the marshalls. They were even cheering the runners. Thank you for that. PS. I have seen the weirdest thing yesterday... Two (male) runners fighting and swearing at each other and a marshal keeping them off each other. I have never experienced this before. We normally like each other and we don't turn to violence. Hacc, I would never say you are unfit. Have a friend on Strava that did it too, and he has been training non-stop for months (even after IMSA), and he said it was super rough. Just think it's a rough run. You did a Comrades! In my mind, you are fitter than 99% of people. So, I have been recovering from Pharyngitis, and took time off due to family responsibilities, and my first track session was a nightmare. My Strava score said that the track session was "Extreme" with a suffer score of 156, 109 points in the red. I was barely moving faster than a suffle, and I took long breaks between. It's taking a while to bounce back and shake off the cobwebs Edited August 21, 2017 by EmJayZA Hacc 1
'Kaze Pete Posted August 21, 2017 Posted August 21, 2017 So how was everyone's weekend training wise?Saturday I rode straight into a howling wind. Turned around and with the wind could only manage a tenth overall position over a 10km segment... going at an average of 44km/h for that segment. Guess I joined the list of wind assisted rides. this afternoon I ran down to the river before heading back home. Easy 6km Time to be lazy is over
shaper Posted August 21, 2017 Posted August 21, 2017 Did my ITB after pirates 2 weeks ago, been having physio and felt good to go. Did an easy pace 30kms training run on Saturday up to 2 6kms then limped home as the ITB started hurting again. More physio this week and will stick to swimming and spinning, hopefully all will be well for Wanderers 21km this weekend comming!
Chris_ Posted August 22, 2017 Posted August 22, 2017 Time to be lazy is over Yup, this is for me too. I can count on one hand the times I've trained since comrades and its getting ridiculous now. First time back in the pool since IM last night.. short sharp run this morning.. Exhausted! Hacc and Andrew Steer 2
