Andrew Steer Posted April 8, 2018 Posted April 8, 2018 Edgar... cracking run at Irene, 3:30 for an Ultra All that training paying off nicely Edgar 1
Khronis Posted April 9, 2018 Posted April 9, 2018 Quick question for all the Comrades runners. What is your total distance year to date? And what are you aiming for? Im on 814km , as its my first i'm just going for a finish but if i can get under 11 hours i would be very happy . Will see what happens on the day... Khronis Posted April 9, 2018 Posted April 9, 2018 Did Irene yesterday with the plan to use it as a long slow training run. Managed to get through those first few km in the dark without incident.  Had a good run through out even though those last 15km were pretty tough with a few climbs to manage. Ended with a 05h20 which I was happy with considering it was my first ultra. Just need to remember to put vaseline around my armpit area, chaffed a bit but rubbed some sudo cream on and it's all good.  Sent from my E5823 using Tapatalk Lexx, shaper, Andrew Steer and 1 other 4
Mokgaga'a mmakubela! Posted April 9, 2018 Posted April 9, 2018 also did Irene ultra with disappointing finish time of 4:45 Â . the race was well organised and will definitely be back next yearÂ
Andrew Steer Posted April 9, 2018 Posted April 9, 2018 Ran the Alan Robb 32km yesterday... actually had a really nice day out. Weather was good, the logistics nice and easy, the race well organised and my legs post OMTOM were definitely in a bit of a better place. Also nice mentally to just run 32km's... Managed a 5:45 average for the distance which was a bit faster than planned, but legs are feeling okay for a change. Also switched to my 'older' Gel nimbus as I'm pretty sure my current ones are on their last legs. Definitely felt like the older ones had a bit more life in them.Anyone see any Asics Gel Nimbus specials let me know, else I think I might take the Shoe Booster plunge with Vitality.Well done all to all the Irene guys, some impressive times done - crucial next month or so now to get in some miles - just need my legs to play ball Khronis, Edgar, shaper and 1 other 4

Thursday came come now as that's when I travel down to PE. Jackes Posted April 9, 2018 Posted April 9, 2018 Ran the Alan Robb 32km yesterday... Managed a 5:45 average for the distance which was a bit faster than planned, but legs are feeling okay for a change. Clearly we also don't have the same itb issues...  Went for my first run post omtom on Saturday and within the first km the pain was back full blown...  Walked/try to jog for 5 kms and that was that.   Great news for peak comrades training! :cursing:
Lexx Posted April 9, 2018 Posted April 9, 2018 Lexx, Â Good week last week, quality and quantity. Not sure how you do all that training on your pat. Respect. Thanks Edgar.
Andrew Steer Posted April 9, 2018 Posted April 9, 2018 Clearly we also don't have the same itb issues...  Went for my first run post omtom on Saturday and within the first km the pain was back full blown...  Walked/try to jog for 5 kms and that was that.   Great news for peak comrades training! :cursing: Sorry man Jakes... it's frustrating I am sure. The whole of last week I rolled my ITB, stretched, even got back into my Bio work a bit. OMTOM was a big wake-up call!I definitely don't get it as badly as I used to (my muscles are probably in better balance after a few years of fixing them), and also knowing how to stretch it out on the go makes a world of difference - I literally plonked my bum on the side of Chappies for 5minutes during OMTOM as it was rapidly heading towards a place of serious pain. I try avoid at all costs it getting to the point where the knee inflames as that pain just doesn't go away quickly. Has a bio given you strength exercises to counter it at all? (I'm sure we've had this chat though) Hope you come right soon, it's definitely not rest time unfortunately
