"Oops, the leader has got us lost, and now his possie is trying to find the red markers.  Eventually we spot on on top of the hill on the other side of the river.  We had missed a river crossing.  So it is now time for trekking on the most direct route to the marker."

I think this is my biggest fear with trail running...getting lost! I will just panic!

Did you see Gerda’s story about her layoff before Comrades 2017? Crazy

https://www.findallnews.co.za/sports/two-oceans-golden-girl-gerda-could-become-one-of-sas-greatest-athletes/

Steyn’s dreams of a top ten position for the 2017 Comrades appeared to have evaporated when a stress fracture was diagnosed months before the race. “I did virtually no running in the months before to Comrades,” admitted Steyn. “I could only do non-impact exercises, including pool jogging, and started last year’s Comrades after just two training runs over 30km and 40km!”

Amazingly Steyn achieved her goal, placing 4th in 6:45:45, giving notice of more to come, before preparing for the Valencia Marathon in Spain in December.

That is impressive.

I am notorious for getting "misplaced" on trail runs.  Thus I have evolved a strategy of "conveyor belt", where I hook on to a similar strength-ed runner  to lead me through the more off road parts.  It works well if he/she does not get lost as well.......

Trail runs do often have steep parts or gravel roads which are well marked and allow for a bit of turbo boosting to make up for "lost" time/places if you get caught behind a "slower" runner on the "navigation" parts of the route.

The most important part is to back track to the last known marker (always watching for markers) and re-plan.  Never try to surge after a detour.  Rather slow down a bit, get your orientation and mojo back and start pacing back to race pace as soon as your head is clear.  Remember it is easier to get lost again (or more lost) when your head is full of panic or worry.

Just a quick one on this ITB nonsense... Is there any taping techniques that actually does help relief the symptoms or is all of them nonsense? If so, can someone please show me how.

No?

No?

I taped a runners knee on my first comrades... But I think it was a placebo because I zigzagged across the road to find the flattest bits and I think that was the main reason it didn't flare.

Honestly.. Street going for good hard strong sports massages. I would do 4 in the month before comrades. Not importantly go for some deep fascia rubs along the itb.. At least 2 or 3. Trust me it will help

Maybe, but how will you break your toe?

A friend of mine got "a bit" drunk a week before Comrades and jumped on a jumping castle at a "kerk basaar"... He broke his toe. He still ran Comrades and finished it in time. He is running his 29th Comrades this year and doing his 30th next year with his daughter.

I picked a metal garden chair in the dark as my method. Friend of mine found the corner of her cupboard n the dark toe-first, which was also couple of weeks before Oceans, which she duly ran!

So many options, so little toes...

Sounds like my kind off kerk basaar.

Does anyone know of an over the counter antihistamine that is non-drowsy?

Long story short the ENT I went to thinks my nausea is caused by motion sickness. I went for numerous tests (MRI, VNG test, and Hearing test) and it is not vertigo or an inner ear problem. I have to go see a neurologist in two weeks time.

In the meantime, I googled what helps for motion sickness and antihistamine was one of the suggestions.

Mate of mine twisted his ankle properly on the kerb at the top of poly shorts on the down run. Lay writhing in pain for 5 minutes.. Got up hobbled along. By the time he finished his entire ankle was blue and swollen. He could barely walk for about 2 weeks after

Allergex non drowsy maybe. I know the normal one makes me really drowsy but have never used the non drowsy one so can't say if it works or not.

Its the first thing that came to mind because of the radio ad that was constantly played.
