Chris_ Posted August 7, 2018 Posted August 7, 2018 need a new daily trainer as my existing pairs are both over 1100km (might also have been a contributor to my hammie strain!) pulled the trigger on a pair of Puma speed 500 ignites. If they don't work out then..they were only 60 euros but i have been itching to try them. Very much a short distance shoe so they should do the job for my daily runs. will have to do a report back on build quality and feel On your hammie.. Now I'm no doctor so this may hurt further, hinder progress or maybe just help your cause. But what about those curved non-motorized treadmills. My hammies always feel well worked (in a good way) when I do a sesh on it. Because you actually have to pull yourself along I feel it engages the leg a lot more than the normal treadmill.

Frosty Posted August 9, 2018 Posted August 9, 2018 94 days to my first half marathon... just entered for my home town 1/2. Hacc, Lexx, Mats and 2 others 5
Stretch Posted August 9, 2018 Posted August 9, 2018 94 days to my first half marathon... just entered for my home town 1/2.Sub 1:50
Frosty Posted August 9, 2018 Posted August 9, 2018 Sub 1:50Goal 1: finish;Goal 2: sub-2 would make me happy. Given that my (only) 15km time, to date, is 1:27 - it allows 33 mins for the final 6km. And that 15km had some sub-5 min/km for the final 2km. Mats 1

Frosty Posted August 10, 2018 Posted August 10, 2018 (edited) It’s the Alberton 1/2, so technically a flat course. Not 100% sure pf the route but there’s at least 10km on roads I train/run on. Nice thing is that I can hop out of bed, walk 600m to the start. Edit: found the Strava files from 2015 - 2017... looks like a double lap course, about 150m elevation gain. https://www.strava.com/segments/13700740[/u] Edited August 10, 2018 by Frosty

Dont think I’ve done that one, the wife probably.  Are following a training program or just running in general?
HDW Posted August 10, 2018 Posted August 10, 2018 Just want to say thanks to the advice on here regarding seeing a specialist after my crazy knee pain. I tried to self-diagnose, but when to see a physio after all. Seems like it was actually a problem waiting to happen for a long time, and the higher intensity running just pushed it over the edge. I have a bit of a structural problem with my legs bending slightly to the outside when I (try to) put my knees together, and obviously that puts a lot of pressure on the inside of the knee. Busy with rehab, stretching and strengthening of especially the glutes. Went for a 2km run on Monday and almost couldn't walk on Tuesday - that after 2 weeks rest. Anyone who overcame something similar? And any advice once more? Funny thing is it is almost as if my right upper leg stays in spasm - have had dry needling and very deep tissue massages for two weeks in a row now, and afterwards the knee pain feels 70% better, only to return again the next day.Â

Gives me the option to train for a 21 while still keeping my 100km cycle fitness in check. SwissVan 1

Christie Posted August 12, 2018 Posted August 12, 2018 (edited) Shoe advice needed:My trail runners (Saucony Xodus Iso's) are awesome, but do not handle the Western Cape terrain well. This is my first pair of trail shoes, I ran trail with my road shoes, till it felt as though lack of grip was slowin me down. I chose these after due to excellent grip, supreme comfy feel under foot and they feel very similar in fit and while running to Nike Pegasus (go to road shoes). My toes do not damage my road shoes at all, I suspect the damage shown is due to abrasive contact with stuff on the outside. Shoes has done 250km. Im used to getting 700km from a pair of shoes, and trail shoes are more expensive than road ones. Where to from here?(I do about 40km per week, mostly on tar, and use the trail shoes mainly for trail events) Edited August 12, 2018 by Christie
