I'm doing the 65km but I haven't done any nav work (still got time to work on that) yet. Might need to practice in the Karkloof next week (Jess is doing the 50 miler). I've done self supported training runs up to about 35km so far but only on road. Plenty of work still to do!

What gps/watch are you planning on using for navigation?

It is fairly simple with a gps just got to remember to make sure you check every min or two to keep on or near the track, remember it is not an exact route so if you on a path parallel to the rout and the route area is overgrown, run the path till it diverges off and then go back to the route..

If you want pm an email address and I will give you a good route file for the first section up to balloch caves, there are good and bad routes for that run, some lines are definitely faster and easier than others.

Scottsville again

Oh, how I hate that finish... I hope this is not a permanent decision for all the up runs...

I've been following some of his training recently. Its just insane. Running 10 x 1km repeats starting at 2m40/km and going progressively faster.

He is not human.

I really like Kiphoge. I hope he breaks the record. He is always full of smiles.

I don't think I will have that expression on my face if I was running sub 3 min/km...

I can't remember which marathon it was a year or two ago, Kiphoge was helping a youngster that stuck with him. The youngster was all over the road and Kiphoge told him where to run.

Looking forward to the marathon on Sunday.

Dave, that's incredibly generous of you, thank you. You'll have a PM shortly. I'm using a Garmin 645.

Did you watch the breaking 2 documentary? The guy is so humble.

If I remember correctly that was Guye Adola at Berlin last year, he ended up running a sub 2h04 marathon. Second fastest debut ever.

Cannot see that they will change it with the size of the field now.

Size of the field has been the same for years. I reckon they've struck a deal with the racecourse..

Was it? Was the starting list this year not +- 16,000 vs +-14,000 last year?

But I agree on the importance of the cheque book as well.

We have a new world record....2.01.39

Edit...he has run 10 marathons.. And won 9... He has one blot on his Marathon record when he came second in Berlin 5 years ago

Amazing run....and the 2 hour magical mark beckons...remember the attempt by Nike in ideal conditions to break 2 hours...iirc they did it in 59 seconds past 2 hours...this guy gets to within 20 second of that in a normal race, fantastic.

Granted it is one of the fastest marathons... And he was properly paced... They were going for the record... But...... You still got to do it!! And he did it superbly

It was beautiful to watch! Perfect conditions for him. I wonder if he is planning to run a sub 2 marathon? To improve by another 1min 39 seconds sounds impossible.
