How hard is it to say, "Sorry guys, we made a boo boo and didn't think past our noses "

These people have had time since April to fix their mess. Comrades had less time, opened before them, sold out in just more than three days without issues this year, I mean really. It is clear which one is moving op up and which one is a mess. No wonder the sponsers pull out. For starters their non existent communication regarding 2020 started all this.

"When engaging with an IT consultant, we learnt that while updating the back-end of ww.twooceansmarathon.org.za with suggested (but not finalised or ratified) information regarding 2020 entry fees and processes, these web pages were actually visible to the public"

This is the k@kkest excuse I have ever heard. Surely the IT consultant is not responsible for the content of the website?

Also, who makes changes to the production environment without anyone checking it?

I suspect the Valsbaai 50 will get more than a few runners, thanks to 2oceans shambles. It is an old ultra event set for revival in 2020. 50km, Gordon's Bay to Kleinmond.

Is that the same route as the Wietse 50km run? If so I would have no problem with doing that race as I absolutely love his Gordon’s Bay to Kleinmond run.

More or less, I think. From what I understand, the plan is to add a 50km route to the Leapfrog half, that ends in Kleinmond, and have busses back to the start.

Please keep us informed about this race, definitely a race I am interested in.

Must be rad. The old Iron Man SA used to be based along there. It was awesome.

In my experience.... LOTS of "specialists". I'm either not brave enough or not enough of a specialist

Considering any site or new portal going 'live' is always such a big thing, I can't see it happening by mistake...

The only possibility I can think of is that the date and time to go live was set a while back as that was the plan, but the content was not approved in time.

Anyways, as pointed out by many, it's a sad state of affairs that doesn't exactly fill everyone with confidence that we'll be back to the gold standard event of pre-2019

A lot of cms have a publish button. You can edit away and save as you go along.. But if you accidentally hit publish.. It's live.. Very easy to do... You okes are a bit harsh!... They've apologized.. And by the looks of things if they go with charities... It's only a few entries for the ultra.. The rest will be sold as per normal.

jussis, some people are only happy when they are unhappy.

Lottery system is BECAUSE it is so popular.

Price increase is BECAUSE it is so popular.

that is basically a reward for a job well done. I understand that this can be a long term thing and it's hard to really mess up a good thing quickly, but it looks like social media has jumped the gun and thrown their panties far too quickly.

I find it incredibly refreshing to see an event actually owning up and claiming the mistake.

It's rare. They didn't even blame the IT guys, they just explained how it went wrong.

As someone that has already paid for two return plane tickets, car rental and accomodation , I'm EXTREMELY P!$$ED off by this. If they gave advanced warning of their intentions i wouldn't have booked or paid for anything till entry was confirmed.

I don't quite understand your point. you booked stuff without knowing you had a guaranteed entry. What's your beef, that they put it up by R100 and now it's unfeasible? That the 2019 sold out in 6hours so now they are doing a lottery?

if it's anything like any other HIGH hype event, there's huge scramble for entries, but once the dust settles you get plenty of sub options closer to the time. I wouldn't cancel your trip just yet

I see its Friday

Price hike didn't even register to me as this will be my first time so can't compare or complain.

As for the Lottery, that was where i had an issue due to lack of communication and experience with Lottery systems, including theirs. IF an event decides to go that route they have full right to do so , HOWEVER i feel its just best practice that if you change your status quo that you inform the people who's money you are planning on taking so they know in advance and can plan accordingly. Their HM has been lottery for years and therefore the year i did try to get an entry I didn't spend a cent before securing an entry which never came to pass.
