The Asics I bought last year are now at 1400kms and Strava keeps nagging me to consider replacing them. They look fine, though they don't seem as "plush" on the road.

Guess it's time to start looking for a replacement pair. They were the first pair of "real" running shoes (I won't count Maxed) that I've ever bought, so it was a bit hit and miss.

Now I have a slightly better idea of what to look for in the next pair, including a wider toe box. I don't have a wide foot, but the Asics are still tight and it took a few lacing patterns before that got better.

I love my Mizuno's and luckily they havent become "famous" so easy to pick up for a couple of hundred rand on One day only..

Did Run the Rivers this weekend...guys, ive now ridden it and run it and its incredible value for money!! If anyone is looking for a beautiful trail run in Underberg, this is 5*.

If you find Asics tight in the toe box stay away from Adidas and Saucony.

That's astounding mileage. I normally get around 600 kms or so. Most I ever got was around 1000kms.

Sometimes the shoes still look new but I get niggles.

This looks fantastic, thanks!

Where did you stay if I may ask?

New Balance I have found have a wide toe box, but just don't work for me for whatever reason...

Then there is Altra's, which pretty much everyone I have met that uses them, swears by... so maybe worth investigating.

That's Asics for you...I get pretty decent mileage with them.. But once beyond 800km I won't use them for long runs. 15km and less. That's my shoes at the moment

Wow, your shoe collection rivals that of Imelda Marcos!

Cool Ideas 2020 Trail Running Series - Kloofzicht

Code of Conduct

  • Don’t trash the organisers on Social Media – have the balls to chat to them first.
  • If racing, follow the arrows – not the person in front of you.

Being my very first trail run I decided to actually listen during the race briefing. The organiser saying that every year runners goes off the route and he doesn't understand it as he walks the route and its impossible to lose the trail as its clearly marked. My take-away being that you must an idiot to go off trail.

Well clearly Im an idiot as my 25km run turned into a 30km run. I ran the first 20k on my own with no other runner in sight expect for the odd time where I would catch someone and overtake them. So I didnt blindly follow anyone.

With the late 7am start I realised something is up as I was still far away from my car, my watch showing 25km and the sun doing its best to make sure the temperature is sitting at a nice 30C. With an empty camel back I was not amused.

Luckily Im fit at the moment and the trail itself was really amazing and I was enjoying the run. It was just a bit a mental stumble when you ought to be done but you still have a parkrun to go.

My road running tekkies were perfect as the terrain was not rough at all , and dry so grip was also never a problem.

From the results page it seems like only the first 6 runners ran the correct route, everyone else after them ran 30km. Even at the last water table the Bavaria girls were directing runners the wrong way.

Its takes one person to flip an arrow board 180deg to make everyone run 5km further.

On Monday morning I was more stiff after my 25km trail run than the marathon I ran the week before :-)

Have you been spying on me....I have actually thought about paddling it...we were talking about it on the weekend, but I can ride a bike and running is fun...paddling id need some lessons!

Jackes:

We stayed in Underberg, just over the road from the golf course.  R1500 for both of us for both nights makes it a super comfy, great value event!
