Scott SA duck and diving the warranty claim

It would be interesting to know if the OP services this bike himself or has it done by a shop.

To me (an unqualified opinion) it looks like a crack that has resulted from the frame being clamped too tight in something. Maybe in the past, that resulted in a weakness?

There's not enough evidence ~ or suitably qualified commentators ~ to determine what happened, or for that matter, to assume that it is a manufacturing defect.

That crack looks like a stress fracture, it does not look like it was caused by compression.

I would have expected it to be at more of an angle if it was torsion related though.

It almost looks like it was pushed up from underneath.

Personally if I knew I wasnt in the wrong I would fight it to the bitter end.

Unrelated I had an issue with my HP laptop recently where certain keys on the keyboard stopped working, HP claimed it was physically damaged by me(a keyboard really?!?!) but after a lot of fighting and back and forth it was repaired under warranty.

So what Im really trying to say is dont just accept it without really trying to get them to honour the warranty.

mmm, the write up from Scott seems like a blame shifting exercise, closing the enquiry in the process. They feel that's text book external - which it may well look like.  Did they physically examine the frame or just see the photos? I would be inclined to think that if it is external - there should be some indication, indentation, pressure marks etc.

In my imagination - that break looks very possible from a stress point of view - thinking what it would look like if you (gently - so that it does not weaken where you clamp it) clamped one side and twisted the other end back and forth until it broke,  I don't imagine it being a clean single directional break...

Shoot man, I hope you come right!

Whats up with some bike brands these days!! They dont seem to want to honour their frame warranties. It really sucks. I feel for the Op as I experienced 2 weeks of no comm from a Manufacturer locally and internationally. Luckily I have insurance and I managed to sort out may ALU  frame cracking.

That said, that crack looks similar to mine although its on a different location. Mine was ruled as metal fatigue. You also do get carbon fatigue.

Where is the image? This thread is pointless without evidence.

Post the link on your facebook and copy the link of the image - and past it here.

I'm not even sure insurance would help in this situation as there is no insurable event like a crash or bike falling off the bike rack.

It would be interesting to read the full report from Scott.

you dont uave to have an accident for insurance to kick in you just have to have an insurable loss

My understanding on all my insurance policies including the bike cover is they payout for damage as a result of an incident, anything else is wear and tear. Just like with car insurance if your diff randomly develops a crack or the headgasket blows no normal all risks insurance plan will payout for that. Unless that is if it was as a result of being involved in an accident, otherwise some mechanical insurance policies will but that's a totally different thing.
