Yeah definitely seems like you where done in. I do think though they have different criteria for that group for this race. A buddy of mine that also does pretty well in the elite/U23 category(always finishes in the main pack) is also in 1A. Maybe its to do with team entries or something? In years gone by you could only qualify for that group if you did the giro but ja I don't know whats the deal now.

I think you are right. Looks like they have also reduced the groups sizes since I last did the race.

This is what I got from my query:

All racing groups in this year's edition of the Cape Town Cycle Tour were based purely on ability by using results from events timed by RaceTec. ONLY the top 150 men (consisting of Elite men, Junior Men, U23 Men and a select few 30+ veteran men) were selected when doing the seeding. Note that being part of a CSA top Club does not guarantee you a spot in this group. Due to safety and UCI regulations this group cannot be increased. If any of your results are not showing on Racetec's website, please email queries@racetec.co.za and query your result with them. Then once your query is resolved, please let us know and we will see if you qualify for an earlier start group. If your result is showing on Racetec's website, then you are correctly seeded.

Your CSA license does NOT influence your start time or position. Riding in a team does also not automatically qualify you for an earlier start.

I think if you have a seeding index of 0.09, you're not there to have a fun ride. Except when your idea of fun is dishing out pain.

Jeez so your index of 0.09 is out of the top 150.

So I went and checked the guy that finished just behind nolan at shova and if I got the right guy(initials JB?) then your results are pretty good as you say. I see you did no riding in 2013? but as an U23 you showed well(2nd at 947 one year). Finishing 12th at DC-well done.

CORRECT. My seeding is 6.98 and even for me its a RACE. The fun ride is on the Saturday.

I'm not in your league, but for me a fun ride will be if I can do a PB which is 3h10. It will be tremendous fun if I can do a sub 3, which I aim for.

Thanks man.

Yip, thats me   I bust a collar bone 4 days before Argus in 2013 :cursing: then got some darn 3 month Flu virus towards the end of the year. 2012 as also a bit of a write off with an injury.

I race way more MTB as it suits my build and I enjoy it.

Hopefully either way you wont pass me this year. :whistling:

The PB is for the first lap...

The fun and scenery is why I do a second lap...

Absolutely. The "it is a funride" and "I will do it on knobblies" clan come with a ready-made excuse. It is much more thrilling to chase a dream (and mostly fail at the Argus due to MANY factors) than to do what most of us can do - just ride a 100km. It is their prerogative but it is not really a "goal" neither is it very interesting. Each to his own.

So you are happy with the new venue - The City Hall?

I'm doing it for fun and the vibe this year, bunch of us from work are participating for 'Reach for a Dream' so will be dropping the seeding and the roadbike for the Cokes and pics and the MTB, hopefully helping people along the way and assisting some of my colleagues to ride their first.

Might throw a couple of beers in the Camelback.
