Specialized- Think twice

Actually, the OP is trying to claim on a bike that he doesn't own (the crack was discovered before conclusion of sale) and the bike was bought elsewhere. Can you blame Graham for his attitude?

Graham should be doing it (willingly and gladly) on behalf of the current owner. I agree that the OP is being difficult re colour, but I'll be the first to admit I would hate to ride a bike in the wrong colour. I also don't like this "out" that warranties only apply to the original owner. Why? Was the original buyer vetted, and based on that, granted permission to purchase the bike? Graham signed up for this. Time to deliver.

Interesting thoughts on this. So lets say the bike was advertised for R30k. The OP goes and looks at the bike and says hey this looks cracked, can we ask Spez for a warranty. I guess the original owner and the potential buyer then went to Centurion and started the warranty process.

Now they get the new frame back in white. Does the seller still give it to the OP for R30k, seeing that he is now getting a new bike? If money changed hands and the original owner was not part of the warranty process specialized is well within their rights NOT to process the warranty.

One can over-complicate the facts quite easily but at the end its all about the actual facts and the merit and accuracy of the complaint.

I gave my 2c, for what its worth...

BTW - "Spaz" water bottles are great - whatever they put into them seem to provide perspective, insight and common sense!

Cheers

I have dealt with many cycle shops , and the best service by far is from Lynnwood Cyclery .

Maybe run it by Andy for a second opinion .

Haters will hate.

If you think that the OP has any merit in bashing the brand you are probably a bigger tjop than what he comes over as.

PS: My stance would have been the same if it was a 'dale, a Cruz or any other bike for that matter. At least it was not a Giant Anthem, with a now-oversized headset that would constitute a fork replacement as well compared to early models.

when I bought my specialized it was through ccma. I met the owner at a test the best, and he was great. Other than that, every dealing with ccma has been cr@p. They have this woman there who I swear could drain life out of the dead

I wanted to buy an S works from them - they told me I was not a good enough rider for an S works... I kid you not....

So I happily spend my money at the Spez shop in PE.... thanks Garth for great service - even with a Jhb client.

Not anymore. Now standard tapered.

Those were stupid years....

If that is true, that is f*cking ridiculous. Imagine walking into a Merc dealer and telling them you want to drop more than a bar on a new AMG and they tell you that you're not a good enough driver.

Think the original post was re service. If the seller was unaware of the crack, OP did him a favour. Re pricing, that's for the 2 of them to decide. I don't think a new frame is the same as a new bike, but from my understanding of the situation, buyer isn't keen at all on the white frame; but is interested in buying a S works frame set of his choosing, where the retailer could be making a grand or 2, as opposed to just swooping out a frame. Always try and sell up...

It's how it's being handled that is at issue here.

No ways you can buy a real AMG for a bar these days ;)

Its true, I remember the story, as well as other hubbers saying the same thing. If you search long and hard enough on the Hub you will still find the threads.

what is the old saying....

Dont speak to the guy that cannot help solve your problem. Go over his head...spez SA, spez US and then if you dont get results...straight to mike the main man himself.

Your expectations are a bit heavy though...replacing in a colour YOU want..(no manufacturer can offer this)

Doing an upgrade as part of a warrantee...not standard practise.

I beg to differ. Warranty upgrade is pretty standard practice across many brands. I've used it with diamond back, garmin, Cannondale, Oakley, bell, shimano heck even wap.

Sounds like the guy the op is dealing with just isn't very customer focused.

In all cases where I negotiated or was offered warranty upgrade I simply paid in the difference in wholesale list price between the warrantee item and the replacement. Even got the colour I asked for even if I had to wait a few weeks.

So despite the op buying a 2nd hand frame the shop has agreed to warranty the frame. They should supply the customers needs.

Can't be half pregnant
