PPA One Tonner

We looked around, saw we had a gap, thought "what the hell - how bad could it be" and off we went. Caught discarded riders all day long, some stuck around longer than others, but with 10kms to go we were down to 5 or 6. My legs took one look at that last hill on the R44 and promptly exploded! Longest 5kms ever...

There's a good reason why it's called "Remhoogte" :whistling:

how severe were all the injuries yesterday? I heard quite a couple of riders went down hard at fairly high speeds. don't know what happened but i hope the riders recover soon.

Like he mentions on his twitter feed, giving guys an A seeding based on one hill climb TT, probably not the most clever thing to do.

What happened to the old method of using your best 3 races?

Yeah man the PPA stuffed up big time with this hill climb challenge.

PPA should have gotten a few elite riders to set the benchmark and then maybe the seeding system could have worked.

Well, if you dont host enough races you have to do the hill climb thing.

Does a hill climb really test your ability to race in a bunch etc?

Also the index for an A seeding has dropped from a 8 to a 10. Hmmmm..

Well done Velouria, thought the pace up Helz was quite manageable but then you Hot Chillee guys HAD to come flying past and spoil things for the sucky climbers among us   :cursing:

For the rest of the ride the pace was pretty tame, the group happy to let 5 or 6 okes do the work up front for most of the race and then race like champs the last few kilometers to claim 7th spot in Group C.

More or less the same thing happened last week at the west coast express, guess I'm just to dumb to understand funride tactics

That said - One Tonner is one of my fav road races, always a proper challenge, 170km on the bike in the heat & wind will always be tough, for everyone from the racing snakes to the backmarkers.

I literally worked my self to a standstill (Remhoogte bit me) in C-D bunch. Last 8km was a sufferfest. Hiding in the bunch does not make you stronger, I'm just saying

The new seedings are out, if you managed to stay somewhere near the front for the past few km's, congrats you are now officially in group B

Hopefully there are a few more okes there willing to work upfront so that we can be the wheelsuckers for a change  :whistling:

I've just found out, I've got the upgrade

I get that he is sore and has a trashed bike but isn't crashing part of road cycling? Plenty of crashes in this years Giro/ TDF - should the pro's who caused those crashes also not be allowed in a PPA "A" group.

Yip, when we toe the line with our race numbers on, it is risky.

AND

It seems that there are cyclists given generous seedlings after the hill climbs, despite lacking the bunch riding awareness.

Breezer wrote about being called a f***n idiot when he dropped his chain in Sunday in a B seeded bunch.

I nearly got taken out in B last Sunday when some rider literally went sideways by 5 meters in the bunch sprint, losing control of his bars.

Have never seen him before in B over the seasons and presumed that he is not experienced to ride sensibly.

Remember, power does not mean skills and racing intelligence come with it.
