For the Tri-athletes out there. What watches are you guys using for training and racing?

Bought my wife a TomTom Multisport but she didn't like the look of it (apparently too manly!!). So shout if you are interested. Nice watch with all the goodies included. Its included under classifieds and she only wore it once.

See the reviews on the garmin fenix 3, else most have garmin 920, 910.

I have the 910, does what it says on the label, no complaints!!

Depends on your budget?

I'm trying to see what I need to build a budget for.  The Tom Tom just doesn't seem to cut it in terms of battery life and features.  The 910/920 seem to be the leaders of the pack but there are a number of close runners up.  Just keen to see who is actually using what and recommending what.

I have a suunto ambit 2 S . Have not had a minute of trouble with it. Hearing a lot of guys having issues with the Phoenix 3 with software. Suunto is great, new ambit 3 is top notch and will measure heart rate while you swim too.

Good prices on the 910XT here in the classifieds and on gumtree.

If you already have a garmin for cycling then will pair with existing Ant+ devices

I use the tomtom, it does the job for what I need. I aint a pro. the only time battery life is an issue is when I do full IM cos it takes me forever ...any other time it works perfectly and does what I need it to do which is track my mileage and time.

I guess the 920 is the pinnacle of tri watches , but it is more loot and has functions I will never use anyway. I like the simplicity of the tomtom and the profile of it.

All of the tri watches do some things well and imho any watch is better than no watch at all so determine budget and get one, you wont look back.

920

I am eagerly awaiting the next release from Garmin though. As this will bound to be built upon the strapless (MIO) technology for HR.

Should be first Quarter of next year.

Suunto T6c.

First piece of tri specific kit I bought back in 2009. Unless you need GPS, don't see the point of all the latest gizmos. Has TE and EPOC will gauge recovery time (same Firstbeat technology as Ambit and 910/920).

No need to charge it before I ride 2032 battery lasts six months of daily training.

Also used the Garmin 920 for about 3 years...as mentioned, awesome watch if you only want GPS and heart rate. The Strap broken after taking a tumble with my MTB . Got a SUUNTO AMBIT 3 SPORT on special a few months ago, also really happy with it. Has a great multisport function.

Fenix 3.

I have had no issues with software or otherwise.

Not sure how I managed without it, and the best thing is that it never leaves my wrist (aside from charging).

That said, the battery life is far better than I was led to believe from the the Garmin haters' reviews...

It looks good, it does what it says on the box (and more), and I can wear it everyday to work too.

What more do you want?

Sure, it's not cheap. Want cheap? Go look at Bryton or Mio... You will be back on this thread before you can say "dissatisfied."
