It was Malusi Gigaba at the time. Hlaudi was busy demolishing the SABC.

Yeah, changed the country's law to try and get back at his ex-wife - farkd everyone over in the process.

I do enjoy this thread. However, no place is perfect. I see only “The Good” being posted. As far as SA is concerned “The Bad” (general statement).

So come on guys, where’s the Bad and the Ugly in New Zealand. Can’t be all roses.....

If you don't have medical Aid a doctor costs $50 or more a visit....

That was the only negative I saw when I was there...

Once again, get a different doctor, I pay $18.

I have a big negative.... Going on maternity leave in NZ.

Most companies don't give you a cent in whole time you are away. You get monies from the government now for 22weeks, but it's easy less a month than I pay tax when working full time...

The biggest thing is how the company treats you when you get back, which like like is now going to be something I'll be taking up further (think discrimination actions). It's a huge loss to a family when the woman use to work a good income job and then take time to have a baby, unfortunately our also seems its a loss year to year the company plans if we don't take actions now.

Fortunately for me I have a partner that probably believes more than me in woman equity and rights than myself and he (in my absence at the company as I'm currently in SA) took it up with the HR head and we now have the big ball rolling.

Definitely.

Even if just family of 2, each has to work!

Can't afford comfortable living (not even including fancy new cars) if both don't.

General cost of things? Or when comparing back to old SA is it the housing, utilities, food, insurance, schooling etc. that is “expensive” ?

My question exactly.

I heard Europeans/Americans complains about cost of living there, thought it is just because they are so used to get things on the cheap.

I can understand it is an Island, so getting things there is going to cost (Australia is a 3hr flight), but is it really that expensive?

I would wait for citizenship before rocking the boat...................

Our rent (which is a super small house), water & elec, Layla's school, internet and basic groceries (no alcohol, little meat, no fancy toiletries, etc) costs us R45k a month.

That's no fuel, no insurance, no clothes, no going out or away, no haircuts or any other things people usually do. No debt, no car payments etc etc. We live a very very simply life (day to day living), according to Auckland council our average consumption for water a month is at the 50% mark for 1 person, we are 3 in the house.

I earn the same in Auckland than I did in JHB. There my monthly expenses (the need to pays) were less than R9k pm (and that included many dinners out).

I honestly don't know how people survive in Auckland when only one is working or if they are teachers etc. and want to stay in their own place (renting, forget about buying).
