Pyga 650B vs Giant Trance Advanced

Giant without any doubt

pyga is cool brand but  sluggish and slow ,

I'm interested in this fleeting statement right here...

I rode a pascoe UP and down all the blue sections at Thaba and had an absolute blast.. I can't see how you find it slow...

I believe the bike you rode was not set up (or you haven't ridden one)

P.S. I cannot stand dual suspension bikes and only ride Hardtail and I found the pyga responsive and agile!

To the OP:

Test them both, they are both extremely capable bikes and would not mind either of them!

Hi guys..

I weigh about 110kgs. Currently ride a Giant XTC carbon hardtail.

I want to go 650B as I'm never going to be fast.

Looking at the Trance Advanced 2014 with full XT and a carbon frame versus a Pyga 650B (probably the Onetwenty)

The Giant is R43k and the Pyga R47k

Which would you choose bearing in mind my weight.

I'll likely build my current Guide RS brakes onto the new bike.

Will also likely sell the new bikes wheel and my current Hope+Flow Ex wheels and buy a 650B set of Hope + Flow Ex.

I'm not nearly as skilled as full 140mm travel requires but I dislocated my knee on Die Burger and want to limit my falls by going from a 29er hardtail to a dual sus 650B.

I'm 183cm..

Hope to get some good arguments for/against..

No comparison and the choice is obvious - PYGA

I just bought a OneTwenty and did a full custom build with minimal compromise on parts so they are not cheap...

BUT...the first ride...OMG the bike climbs like a beast and the maneuverability of it on singletrack and off drops/jumps etc is incredible.

The Giant I am sure will be rad as well, but from what I've heard from other owners the Pyga is in a league of its own.

Contact Bibi here is you're interested in one, he has tonnes of knowledge on these things, especially towards the more trail-->Enduro side of things :)

To the OP - the 2014 Trance advanced - new or 2nd hand, and you sure it's a 2014? If it is, which one is it? The Advanced 1?

Yup, Advanced 1 with the Talas and almost full XT and the not yet carbon PXTR's

Revelation RCT3

XO1

Guide RS

Oozy Trail

Reverb

But the dealer is kinda far away while the Giant is 5km from me.

The trance weighs only 11.8kg, so still light for XC stuff, no idea what the Pyga weighs.

PYGA

Don't let location determine the sale.

Yes, the giant is a FANTASTIC bike, but so is the PYGA. But that fork... eish. And those Oozy trails & reverb and Guides and hte X01 are far better spec.

Pyga (this coming from a Giant Fanboi)

I'd take the GIANT and upgrade the fork damper. gets you to a smilar price as the PYGA but you have a carbon main frame and bike that climbs better.

I like the PYGA's but there's no denying that they built to strengthen your legs

You say you want to limit falls, my guess would be the Trance would be a bit safer than the Pyga but not by much. You say you are putting other wheels on, again I think this will probably benefit the cheaper Trance more. Cheaper carbon Trance vs alu Pyga? I would definatily go for the Trance.

Faaark. I'm switching opinions here like a Main Road hooker goes through smokes.

The Giant's frame is a BELTER. With the fork upgrade (new damper) even though it's still a fox 32 at 140mm, it'll be a far better fork. And it's a damn good bike.

Meh. Buggerit.

Okay. It's equals. If we're looking at the frame alone, it's the giant every step of the way. The spec can be fixed. And with the damper upgrade, that fork will be far better.

AARGH!
