RANT:I continue to be frustrated by Vitality.

despite all the benefits, I'm convinced that the run around you have to do to jump through their hoops is just not worth it.

all I want to do is try get a Sportsman's discount voucher.

I think they're still available.

I have both the Discovery and Discovery Bank apps.

but no amount of searching there or on the website will unlock this.

Remember to get your reward number or QR code in the Discovery app at any time by selecting Vitality Active Rewards > Fitness > Fitness gear > Active Gear.

maybe I'm the dumb one, but it's almost like the design goal is to just irritate users

/RANT over

edit: rant solved.

seems like the discount went from R500 to R250. oh well.

TIP - the broker that sells you Vitality gets a pretty decent monthly fee for this.

In theory they can, or rather should be able to, assis members with these ever changing goal posts ....

Back to reality .... you are more likely to get a thick brochure with wayyyy too many pages of fine print.

These vouchers are still available at R100, R250 and R500.

On your app, click on Vitality Mall. The Sportsmans Warehouse option is there.

The 25% discount every month is not the same thing. That you get every month for Active Gear at SWH.

yup talking about the Active Gear specifically. The cap from R500 went down to R250 in the past year (might not be news to many).

The cap was always at R1000 and still is.

I use it a lot, used one last week for MTB tyres, got 25% off.

back to vitality - in the market for a new gps watch. eyesight is going shortsighted, so would be nice to actually read the numbers - seems amoled is the way to go.

did they change the device discount? it's capped at R4k(is that new?). So if you want an R8k watch, and you qualify for 40% off, it's actually just R6400 or 20% effective.

I've been a suunto guy, but would maybe move to garmin for this. BUT I see so many Ts and Cs that they will schnaai you in the end, won't they?

Currently the FULLY funded Garmin watch option is not available as yet, I've been hounding them since last year about this and they said should be live Q2 of this year... it will be the same as the Apple watch benefit whereby you can get a Garmin Watch to the value of R8k, you pay in your R799 once off fee and then at the end of every month they pay according to the number of goals you've hit for that month.

So essentially they pay for the watch over 24 months if you hit all your goals.

The Fitness Device benefit is something totally different.

Ah, the never ending Discovery run around. I wanted to pause my 26 week fitness streak 2 weeks ago because I got sick and couldn't get to 900 points required for the week (I still got to 700).
But no sir, it's never that simple. Despite the fact that this is indeed possible to do if you have an unbroken streak of 20 weeks, it's only possible on the Discovery Banking app for which you will need a Discovery CC. It's not available to the plebs with only the normal Discovery fitness App.
So if you want that little perk, you need to take out a DCC 🤬

I get that. query is about these "fitness goals" - are they achievable or do they just move the goalposts as you get fitter.

They have captured me with this one and I hate them, I will not take out anything more, I even moved my life insurance from them because of a 19% increase the first year because I was seen as a high claimer.

Also considering cancelling vitality and also my life policy. The premiums for the life policy is ridiculously high. My wife is the medical aid main member because the company pays a large portion of the premium as opposed to me not receiving a subsidy. My wife lost interest in cycling thus there is no way that I alone will get the status to gold. I have asked discovery that if I can be alone on vitality as the policy premium increase every year is linked to your vitality status. The answer was just no. With me alone not achieving gold and the premium increase that will be in the region of about 12% as this year even on gold the increase was about 10.8%.

It is all about their banking products, need a new device..."sure you just need to be a discovery bank client...and as mentioned above need a pause on your fitness streak..."sure you just need to be a discovery bank client".

You can open a free bank account to access some of the other benefits.

If you phone them they might tell you that you need a paid for account, but its not true. I think its a sales tactic they use.

I opened a free account in order to get to use some discovery miles that I had accumulated.

There was no other way to use the miles.

I've not put any money into the account yet, as of thus far, around 3 months, it has not cost me anything.

ja did similar - to buy some flights - wasn't really worth the effort for the savings if it's only intermittent, plus i have to transfer money into the account to pay for the flights.

I'd be totally happy to be ALL IN with a group for all my stuff, if it really was a deal. but everytime I question people who are purple kool aid Disco I back off. the cult vibes are too strong.
