Discovery Health - Vitality & Team Vitality plus everything else you need to know

Seems like they are sending out a standard response, and not really answering the questions that are being asked.  Our running club and cycling club licences are up for renewal.  But now we are waiting for Discovery to finalise.  Not very organised which is a pity.

Just hope that we will still be able to qualify for the points on the events if you dont belong to the vitality team

You will qualify for your points still. I received my points for the Kudus 15km race on my vitality log

Yeah. I'm not disputing that, and tbh it strikes me as very strange that they'd have included that as a condition. I'm going to go through my presentations again to see if I missed it in the training and launch material, but I doubt it's there as I would have said something about it earlier if there'd been such a stupid condition.

Could you let me know what you receive back from them when they reply to your questions? I'll see if I can wade through it on my side.

Will do.

Ok, so to summarize. (Please correct if I am wrong.)

We can enter events now and will get the applicable refund - I assume there will be a portal for this on discovery website.

You pay the R650 and get the discount and some kit.

Do they cover the CSA license?

Anything else I have missed besides all the T&C's

If you only get a rebate on running events if you join their running club and only get rebates on cycling events if you join the cycling club what do you have to do to get money back on the Triathlon events?

Hi,

This is reply on some questions I asked.

. Your R600 cycling fee includes a starter pack as well as your provincial and CSA licenses. Team Vitality covers the cost of these licenses and will send you confirmation once you have been registered. If you would like a racing license to compete in elite or age groups, you would have to do this registration on your own, Team Vitality will not cover this cost on your behalf.

The shirt included in the cycling starter pack is a proper cycling jersey and the voucher will be redeemable online.

Trust that this assists you and we are excited with the possibility of having you part of Team Vitality.

Regards,

Team Vitality

Any of you know if this voucher will be used on the Discovery Mall portal? or will it be recognised at other retailers, possibly even Garmin themselves...?

From my understanding based on discussions, but still waiting for confirmation, you will get cash back on all triathlon events that are listed on their calender.  You can join their running or cycling to qualify.  No need to join both.  however, your TSA licence will be for your own account.  Whereas you would get a CSA or running license depending on which club you join.

Having said that, there is still a T&C up in the air about having to wear the kit to qualify for the cash back.  This is a problem for me personally as i wont be doing that at any triathlon...

got this yesterday:

Thank you for your email.

We are in the process of finalising the Team Vitality race calendar. This will be added to the Team Vitality page on the Discovery website when we launch registrations in late January 2015.

You will receive cash backs for events you have already registered for, provided that:

·         It is on the Team Vitality race calendar

·         The race is completed

·         You have not reached the quarterly spend limit of R3 000

·         You race in your Team Vitality shirt

The cash back is calculated at 50% of the pre-race day fee, regardless of your Vitality status.

The reason for the cash back being “up to 50%”, is that the total combined qualifying spend at these events is limited to R3 000 per quarter, and R12 000 per year.

This is subject to change, and will be confirmed when Team Vitality is launched in late January 2015.

We have noted your details and will keep you updated.

We trust that this assists you and we are excited with the possibility of having you part of Team Vitality.

Regards,

Team Vitality

How are you supposed to race in a team vitality shirt that you dont have because they have not started it yet?

I asked them on twitter this morning and its only starting in Feb.

I am a Bit confused about your Stance that you wont wear the Discovery Kit if they pay half your Ironman entry fee as you race in a tri suit.

In your profile picture you are clearly racing in the Specsavers IM kit to take advantage of the half price entry specsavers gave you.

There is always a Choice as in Ironman, pay half and race in their kit, Pay the full entry fee and race in your Tri suit..

I know I did both my Ironman Races in the Specsavers kit, it wasn't overly comfortable but for a R2250 saving I was willing to deal with it for 10-12hours.

So I must phone up my team and inform them I won't be racing for them in their kit this season?  :whistling:

The Spec Savers shirt was a thin sleevless shirt.  With pockets.  It is something that was suitable for a long endurance event.  Yes, it wasn't the best quality but pratically it was something that you could use.  The Vitality team kit will be a full on cycling shirt, or a running vest depending on which club you join.

I personally dont see myself cycling and running in a cyling shirt.  The opposite is also try, i dont see myself cycling in a running vest.

Hope that this makes sense.

I hear you, This is their first year of this and their first half hearted attempt...

I'm sure it will improve and some Tri gear will get added in the future..

I've also run for the same running club for over 15 years (RAC) and cant really see myself moving across for the small savings you get from running race entries, however I get what they are trying to do, and if you want the savings they want the exposure.

Cycling on the other hand is money for nothing, lets hope they add a few stage races and use a Good Kit manufacturer for those Cycling Jerseys.

Agreed.  And I fully support what they are trying to achieve.  however, something like having to wear the kit is not always practically and I personally think very difficult to enforce. I dont mind wearing their kit where it is practical as ultimately it is a win win situation for both parties.

Let's see what happens after the launch and hopefully we all get some cash back.
