Hmm was also in Formula 100 in about 1995 and 96 - 98 somewhere around there. I used to run a PCR to try and get the weight to a reasonable level. I lightened the kart so badly that it weighed about 60kgs and the guys at the weigh-bridge used to almost fall over when they lifted it up cause it was so light. I had ally everywhere. Nothing like 40 karts steaming in to the first RH bend at Swartkops at the start, or dare i mention the Nose or the Shoebox? Those corners took courage.

Aaaah. Good times!!! Still have my last Tony Kart, Two Yamaha Engines and One PCR engine. Under much dust. Too fat now, don't fit in the seat. There's a nice FB page on historic karting in South Africa. Have a look.

Ive got a 13,14,15,16 for back and 48,50 and 51 for front.

Usually spin bunch and eliminations on a 90 (15 back 50 upfront) and go big gears for sprints.

I did a day at the track and loved it. As a sprinter it was awesome and the bigger your thighs the faster you went. I must admit I could have done more and was interested.

Definitely not weight weenie territory.

Saw some huge numbers on the HR monitor after like 3 laps but managed to dig in for a little more. I was gasping like a fish after what felt like about 6 minutes.

And don't forget, all you fat buggers, that the Christmas season with all it's mince pies, Christmas cake, Turkey, Honey Glazed Ham, beers, wine, braais etc, is almost upon us.

I have managed to shed 7 kg's (from 105kg's to 98 this morning) in the last month or two by training harder and more, eating less and drinking far less beer...... And I know, sure as nuts, that I'm going to pack on at least three kg's in December.

So stuff it all, just enjoy it all, stay on the bike, and get back to it in January

Spare a moment for the fat buggers whose lifestyle comprises what some only indulge in over the Christmas season. I speak from experience and guilt ... and winge every time I tackle a stage race or steep climb ... but have no regrets. Love my food. Love my bike.

I am too part of this wonderful group of heavier people. Currently at 96 but hope to be back under 90 early next year.

I also don't let it bother me that I'll never be a race snake. I'm more happy to power through the shorter, steep climbs (which I love), than the longer more gradual ones where I sometimes fade out, and either just go at a snails pace, or get off and walk for a bit.

This..

I prefer to still intimidate most people in meetings etc because of my size than just being able to kick ass at cycling.

I'm by no means perfectly built (in what I see is a well proportioned oke) but if asked what a guy should look like I'll 11 times out of 10 choose a 200m sprinter's physique over a cyclists' legs and lungs look.

Still damned jealous of the cyclists ability to climb...

Did the Stellenboch Cycle Tour on a MTB full knobblies yesterday, went up Helshoogte 11km/h average and from there all the way to the next proper drag (50kms later) no-one passed me and I built up a bunch of at least 40 people sitting in my giagantic slip going 35km/h.

When we hit the climb at the Wellington turn-off the entire bunch I'd been pulling along for 40kms dropped me..

Wouldn't want to look like an Epic winner ever, just enjoy the sport..

Only reason I'd ever want to be lighter is to beat the girls who spin at gym and then power past me on uphills only to jog the downhills where the fun parts are at races. :)

Fatbike. On sand. Into the wind. 0m climbing. Fattattack.co.za. Bring it on. The revenge on my partner for many W2W, Panorama and Gravel and Grape type races and untold suffering. I hope it freaking rains also...

On a positive note. We are good beer drinkers though. Maybe we can find some common  ground there after the race.

Ek sal maar terug staan. Let's meet in the hills (I choose my battles wisely)

My beer drinking ability after a race is limited to approximately 1.5 to 2. About 3-4 and I'm incapacitated the morning after. Anything more and I'm useless for most of the day.
