Hi all,

Just want to get some input regarding the current price of R50 per ride at Modder. It seems like quite a steep price to pay for a ride nowdays and i havent really seen where our money is going to.

Just want some opinions about it.

You're riding on someone else's land.

It's secured and scenic, and trails are laid out and maintained.

There's even first aid boxes at several points round the park.

50 ZA Ronds is cheap at the price .

You are not limited to 1 lap .... you can ride all day if you wish .

It does seem like 50 is about the going rate .

I say , well worth it .

Thaba is also 50 if that helps? Having seen the effort that goes into maintaining trails and occasional new trail/features there I don't think that's unreasonable?

I agree with OP in the sense that when you see work being done then you know your moola is working. Haven't ridden at Modder so can't comment on that.

There's the 24hr race at Thaba this weekend so the trails are in tip top shape. They always are though, but new berms have been created at certain spots, and some new trails. They're also looking at electrifying the perimeter. Aaaaaaaaaaand they have a pool now, pump track in the works and some wooden obstacle jobs like the ones at the old MTN bike park. Decent toilets, bike wash, coffee etc. Thaba for me is good bangs for bucks

Garden route trail park is R100...

*I'm happy to pay the hunt because them trails are the best I've ever ridden. Quite possibly the best in sa.

R50 is nothing for the time you can spend riding.

What else can you do for R50 that has remotely the same value for money....and is sh*t loads of fun!!

If you want to get more value out of the ride, do a second lap!

Not too many park MTB rides in Jhb that offers almost 1000m climbing in 80km (double red).

There are new sections added, including the "more technical" black section. So definitely work being done!

Purchase a card and get discount.

Garden route trail park is amazing, I would happily pay that to ride there.

Me thinks it is worth it. As said already, safe, pretty, and trails of all lengths and terrains. There is game there too to see at times.  A multi card makes it cheaper.......

For R50 I get an as safe as possible ride.

When I go even at 4pm there's security at my car when it's the only car there.

Off the top of my head in the last year they've replaced the Madagascar bridge, there's 2 new sections of trail- maybe not long but nice fun bits.

There's something everyone -for kids and you hard core types.

Great signage.

Wed night rides.

Free bike wash (donations to the guys)

Free beginner skill clinics

Great clean toilets...

R50, even R100 ain't money these days. What can you buy for R100 that will keep you busy all day, supply loads of fun and get you fitter and healthier all at the same time?

For regular visitors to Garden Route Trail Park, become a member and save loads. I paid R400 4 months ago for a 1 year membership, which is a bargain, even if I can go just once every second month.

Building and maintaining even a simple trail is a costly business, never mind building and maintaining various amenities.

The costs of maintaining a trail or bike park will always be higher than you can imagine, so...

pay with a smile and enjoy the ride!
