94.7 V CTCT

Hi,

A newbie around these parts.

I just did completed my first ever 94.7. I got around in 2.44, decent but not great.

I'm going to Cape Town for CTCT and was hoping to do a sub-3.

I think a 2.44 is a little off the pace for this so just interested to see what people think what time in 94.7 would have put me on course for a sub-3. Obviously that will also depend on wind/weather/start group etc.

I was thinking about 2.35ish.

Any thoughts on how the 2 courses compare. Which is harder/faster?

Well the CTCT is 110km (usually) and the record is 2h27.....gives you 32 minutes behind the record for a sub 3.....

only 29 mins behind at 94.7 so I'm there already. I'll ease off on the training until March :whistling:

for me august is easier but your times will be longer, up and down gets you rest time, 94.7 U ARE  just revving unless we cruising no time for recover and  rest in 94.7, august there are plenty of looong downs to rest,,,yet i think 20min added to 94.7 is an accurate target ON A WIND FREE RIDE

Sub 2:40 (new route) 947 should get you a sub 3:00 Argus. Factors such as wind and starting group will play a major role though.

In my opinion, the new 947 is harder than the Argus despite the difference in distances. 947 has around 1,300m elevation over 94km, Argus has 1,100m over 109km. Its essentially easy with 4 "climbs".

Almost all my 94.7s are sub 2:30.

And when I did the CTCT in that same year, 2:50 was on the cards.

But like everyone above says.....all depends on your start group and your weather on the day.

For me a good guideline to see if you can do a Sub-3 is just to look at your seeding index.

You need to do a ride that's roughly equivalent to an 11 index

And you need to have done it at least once before the Argus so that you are in the right seeded group like Pure Savage said.

So if your index is below 12 you should make it on an average day, 12-15(maybe 14?) you need your stars to align on the day (and I'm not putting money on you making it) but below that sorry, your seeding won't be good enough to make it.

I'm new to all of his so not sure how the index works. With a time of 2.44 for 94.7 what does that mean that my index is?

Also does anybody have any idea of when the seedings for CTCT will be released?

You can look up your index on PPA's website

The seedings are generally released early Feb if I remember correctly, so you can still do races until end of Jan to improve your seeding

Thanks for that. My current index is 16.7 and it says that eligibility is C. Does that mean that I should go off in the C group in CTCT?

My first event was Argus in 2014 and my index was 62  !

It's the PPA group C which is different to the CTCT groups. You probably would need to improve your seeding a bit to be in a fast enough group to chase a sub-3

And you can't improve your seeding as the last race that counted for a seeding in the CTCT was the Stellnbosch Cycle Tour.
