2016 motivation for getting lighter and faster

Frequency and Consistency is key. In order to get the frequency and consistency going I recommend shorter rides more often. I prefer commuting to work and that is 45 min to work and then another 45 min home in the evening.

If you try and do the ultra long rides it will eventually break you down and you will throw in the towel. It is just not sustainable.

I also follow a Banting like diet but when I race I use carbs. And I also like beers :-) Its more of a balanced diet so I don't totally avoid carbs however I try and limit it.

A couple of years ago I weighed 105 kgs and since then I've managed to drop and  maintain my weighed at +/- 68 kgs

THIS. And the "she's looking after me" talk is bull****. If she were looking after you, she'd respect your wish to lose and not tell you to see if you can resist the cookies / baking / cakes etc.

Sorry for being an ass, but in order for this to work, it needs to happen.

My wife was the same, she always made me things like that because she knew I liked them and it was one of the ways she showed love.

She has come to realize that if she wants me to be happy and healthy then those nice treats need to be limited to once in a while and in small quantities.

Its like quitting most things, much harder if everyone around you is putting the temptation in you path.

Have to agree GET YOUR WIFE ON BOARD!!!!

I make sure my hubby eats well and even gets up for training before work ......... It makes my life happier when he's happy, fit and training ????

Treats and cheats are for once in a while and to be enjoyed not regretted ????????

Fear is a good motivator  :)

"Terror, that’s how. Fear of failure at The Thing. Of sucking, and wasting everyone’s time and your money, and maybe some plane tickets. Why does Mt. Rainier, or your 5.12b project, or the triathlon, or ultra, work so much better than those other objectives like “lose some weight,” “get in shape for bikini season,” or “look good for my wedding”?"

I think cycling is like body building, 50 % training and 50 % in the kitchen. You need motivation to train and motivation to diet. With motivation you can achieve anything.

I find that getting new bike stuff, buying new bikes, making sure my bikes are 100 per cent clean and maintained, and doing bike races is very motivating.

look how far you got ...that is enough motivation for you to carry on

Train to get fast not to get thin, is my motto ....no diet 110kg to 77kg ... I still consume the same amount of calories

heard the Journey for sight is cancelled this weekend so i decided to have two twix , choc chip cookie and two packets of niknaks last night   feel so bad but il take it out on the trainer later lol

Some random thoughts:

Somewhere you will have to start getting used to bleeding through the eyes for short periods of time also. I find the first thing that goes when I slack off is the willingness to suffer.

Do some rides with stronger riders and see how long you can hold on before you pop (or come and join some of the online hub races).

Do bunch rides so that you can get used to it and learn proper manners.

Try to go to bed feeling slightly hungry. This is good for the mind and body.

Sometimes ride without any plan and without measuring anything (time or distance).

Good Luck Bud

I also agreed...if my wife supports my drive to loose...it makes it easy...all 20 kg i lost last year were thanks to her help...but in December the wheels...they didnt just fall off they were eaten [emoji12]

Also, get yourself a few pairs of Assos bibs...

They'll truly revolutionise your life...  ;)

You don't need to pay R3000 for bibs. I ride long rides (including Transbaviaans 12 hours) on Craft R600 bibs. Works just as well!

Rather buy 4 good bibs than one for R3000.

My 2c.

Ja, mine too. I think our wives are doing it deliberately subconsciously. They dont want us to be pleasing on the eye of others(lol)

Yeah, I am trying this now, trying to keep it balanced. It is not easy but it will pay off. Just need to try and squeeze in some exercise on a regular basis.

Last year was great for me, Played footy on a wed, hiked on a tues and thurs  and cycled weeekends.

Now everything is almost non existant.

Need to reset

you must be a skinny race snake...with leather between your legs...us fat okes have lots of skin to rub raw...did have cheap shorts then upgraded to a bib best thing...but going assos has certainly made my ride less of a pain in the butt...hopefully as i loose the weight and get "tough" between the legs i will be able to ride with cheaper bibs.

a note i mentioned before the fox bibs look like they use the old high mileage assos chamois at only R999

I would make that more like 80/20 or at least that was what it took for me to lose weight and keep it off

I checked a Merida standing in Deno's shop now without wheels, is that yours? Still no news from J&J?
