2016 motivation for getting lighter and faster

Recommended Posts

I would make that more like 80/20 or at least that was what it took for me to lose weight and keep it off

Training is the easy part for me... Maintaining a good diet for a long term is more a challenge.

it is impressive to read how some people have dropped from over 100 down to the 70 and 80 kg mark...i will have to get new cycling kit...something to look forward to :)

i would be able to ride my merida with the fulcrum wheels if i drop below 95 kg ;)

105kg down to 68kg here. Set small goals and chase them hard. Surround yourself with cyclists. Talk about it constantly (with those who can tolerate). Strava stalk people to motivate you.

That f***** rode 60km this morning?! I'll ride 65km tonight. And then stick to it. So many little things can all add together to keep you motivated, dedicated and excited about riding a bike and losing weight. Push yourself and your limits.

You have an entire forum of people cheering you on every step of the way. Most of us have stumbled more than once chasing a slimmer waistline, an improved PB, or simply resisting the urge to have a slice of cake at those family gatherings with people who just dont get why we do it.

The idea of this thread is to motivate each other...share goals ...things that worked for you...and help motivate each other...getting thin and staying thin is the most difficult challenge I have ever experienced in my life.

Give me a R10 million project and tell me you are already 3 months behind and need to be finished it in a short period of time and if not completed...you in for R100 k per day penalties...I have done it.

Cycle 100 km in a day after getting off the couch weighing almost 130 kg for almost 7 hrs easy peesie ( not really... lot of soul seeking ) Done it .

get below 100 kg and stay there... I haven't been able to do this since I gave up smoking more than 12 years ago .

Those steers burgers...mince pies and chocolates always get the better of me [emoji57]

Maybe this thread will help me achieve my goal this year.

Thanks for help [emoji106]????

My motivation is to be able to ride with my buddies and be able to go as far and keep up! Simple. If that means weight loss, bonus!!

I checked a Merida standing in Deno's shop now without wheels, is that yours? Still no news from J&J?

No not mine...mine is still hanging on my office wall...still no response from J&J....no email...no phone call nothing.

What's your secret I'm struggling to drop recently think I need to incorporate more body weight strength training.

Frequency and Consistency is key. In order to get the frequency and consistency going I recommend shorter rides more often. I prefer commuting to work and that is 45 min to work and then another 45 min home in the evening.

If you try and do the ultra long rides it will eventually break you down and you will throw in the towel. It is just not sustainable.

I also follow a Banting like diet but when I race I use carbs. And I also like beers :-) Its more of a balanced diet so I don't totally avoid carbs however I try and limit it.

A couple of years ago I weighed 105 kgs and since then I've managed to drop and  maintain my weighed at +/- 68 kgs

I remember when we first met in June 2013 you told me you don't drink coke and showed me your staff ID card in Durban. That day you inspired me and I stopped to drink coke and did some minor changes that work for me. 2014 was also a good year for me but in 2015 after Comrades I got into a comfort zone and was under the impression if I train the weight will stay off nope that did not happy. Drank coke again and oops I reached the 80 kg mark again. Luckily I got a wake up call and maintained my weight. 2016 is a new year no Coke that twak is addictive only in marathons for me. i'm aiming for a 73-74 this year.

You do, but Hairy had a nasty bug, so his system is effectively flushed. If you know what I mean...

Those of you who have lost alot of weight. Have you, or are you doing anything else like aerobics, running etc.

P.E class back in school used to keep me lekker fit. All those push ups, sit ups, jumps etc.

I lost weight last year by swimming.  Was swimming twice a week and it has made my back / core stronger and I also dropped a few kg's (without changing my diet).

Sadly mid-December I got whacked with a surf board and burst my ear drum.  For 2 weeks I couldn't swim, run or cycle and of course with Xmas food I ended up putting them all back on.. Devastated...

Unfortunately I am looking at another few months of no swimming :-(  Really sad as I was really motivated.  Had entered my 1st 1km swim.

So, I need to find something else to motivate me to exercise.  Am finding the Discovery Active Rewards is a good motivator as I don't want to let my friends down.

Love the stories of everyone who has lost so much, really inspirational and helps.

Yeah motivation is key,and also I am not much of an indoors activity person, apart from volleyball or squash.
