Two cyclists killed in KZN

Not sure I agree with this approach.

I think the people who drink and drive should stop.

This suggestion moves the responsibility to somebody other than the person who should simply control themselves or Uber.

The corporate I work for has a policy for the last few years of zero alcohol at any work functions.

Things are much calmer now. There's always somebody who goes way overboard.

I have a friend who went with his girlfriend to her companies "Christmas Do". The do was held at company HQ where there was a huge pond and fountains in the gardens outside the function rooms.

The rule was that "no one was allowed in the pond under any circumstances, ever".

My friend drank too much and ended up walking home wet to the skin after disregarding this rule. He was banned from "attending all future events forever".

:-)

Sounds more like a case of Corporate arse-covering, as the overboarders probably embrace drink-driving outside of work functions as well.

Oh it definitely is, but, it has to start somewhere I suppose.

Since it's Spring Day, I'll act like an optimist instead of the realist I normally am and say maybe it could have the potential to trickle further. ;)

A previous employer of mine offered their employees free Goodfellas, at any time, no questions asked, as well as alcohol counselling. That was highly effective, mainly the former, until the bean-counters pulled the service. IMO a grossly short-sighted thing to do, particularly as the company was a brewing company.....

a question people should be asking is if he couldnt afford the R10 000 bail and apparently had it reduced to R2000 because he supports his parents who live at home with him...how can he afford to pay for an advocate and start a business.

court case today...postponed until January 2018...hopefully the case will start on the 15 January 2018 and will run for 4-5 days without any more delay tactics.

good to see a handful of cyclist showing their support.

@Cheabb78. Just because many people ride on the M4 doesn't make it legal. Interesting article here http://roadsafety.co.za/2011-08/are-cyclists-allowed-to-ride-on-a-freeway-or-national-road/ about the legalities. The M4 Ruth First is marked as such freeway at Argyle Road where it begins in the South.

Having said that there are safe cycling passing signs over the Umgeni River! Either way it's a tragedy on the M4 again...

Agree with Geoff, just because many people do something does not make it right or legal.

Blue signed roads, or Freeways, (regardless of N, M, R) is a no go for cyclists

Green signed roads, again regardless of N, M, R can be used

However, this does not take away from the fact that this is extremely sad and my condolences to the families and friends that are left to pick up the pieces.
